This is not the first time a work of art has been targeted by these idiots. Because of course taping paper over a 200 year old painting is not going to damage it. What an absolute load of idiots. I do not know whether the painting was damaged or not - but I imagine neither do they. As a matter of common sense anything of that age and value ought to be treated with some care.

I accept that some may agree with their cause. But is potentially damaging priceless art the way to do it?

Saw this yesterday on social media. Utter moron.
Should get 12 months minimum for criminal damage.
I think that their prime aim is to alienate people with their actions. Instead of getting the public on their side, we want them b-off to somewhere far, far away.
they should go out and join a traffic convoy blocking a motorway somewhere.
Jno, they got much more publicity doing the painting .
Question Author
I agree with both Jno and Anne.

I'm not sure what makes me the most angry though, blocking roads or attacking art.

Attacking art doesn't actually harm anyone in the same way that blocking a road does. Still makes my blood boil though.

I dunno. Anyway, I'm away to bed. I blummin tripped over the well cover in the garden about 30 mins ago when we were trying to look at the baby tawny owl with the night scope. I'm going to be black and blue tomorrow.
Vino ? :-)
"Just Stop Oil"

Errr, and replace with what exactly?

Oil is used in so many products it is impossible to just stop.

Oil will have been used in the manufacture of the trainers on the protestors feet, and looking at the woman's jacket, most likely in the production of that as well.

If they're that committed to their cause they should ensure they have nothing to do with any product where is oil is used, but of course they won't, because (a) I'd suggest it is virtually impossible to do so, but (b), even if it was possible, people like this tend to be hypocrites.
Was it an oil painting? Is that what they want to stop?

All these ridiculous protests need to be stopped, whatever the cause.

There is a time and a place for protest.
Same crowd that targeted Silverstone.
Idiotic? Appears so on the surface. I don't think all of them are ignorant idealists.
They are a part of a very well organised, international movement awash with dark money.
Or, concerned people who actually care about the planet being helped out by compassionate billionaires. (for the gullible)
Personally, I doubt the people behind it care much about or even believe in climate change but that's just another, developing, conspiracy theory. ;-)
//they should go out and join a traffic convoy blocking a motorway somewhere.//

No doubt that was a lefty liberal dig?

The thing is plod did pile in and arrest them although they did have permission (to drive at min 30 mph). They sit and feed the eco lot.

If you're going to protest about something, anything, it's really no use just folding your arms and sniffing disdainfully if you want folk to take notice of whatever your crusade is about.

That's why we have so many rainbow flags and wimmin on the telly these days, people did stuff.
//Was it an oil painting? Is that what they want to stop?//

Then if so they are even bigger idiots than they appear to be. The oil in oil paint that artists use is linseed oil, made from the seeds of the flax plant.

im not sure what you're saying here. Are you upset they were arrested?
Police double standards, I'd have thought.
But I'll let ymb answer for himself.
what is the double standard - they were arrested (according to YMB; i havent actually been following it that closely)
why are the guards not acting, what's the kin point in paying guards?
You don't say, Bednobs.
This is merely foreplay for Eben and the sultry Hannah.

He knows what's what and no mistake.
