They're burdened with a fanatical government, Taliban.
And now a massive earthquake which is said to have killed more than 1000 people. That seems a first report and the number of casualties wil likely be much higher.

yes unfortunately it seems in an area around the Pakistani border very mountainous poor roads terrible situation
I hope the Taliban accept help from the west, maybe it will help them learn we are not their enemy, just against their way of governing.
5.9 magnitude as far as I can see with a 5.6 recorded in the Azores as well, Iran has had two over 5.0 recorded his week I hope they are not signs of more to come
Leave them to it.
Allah carried them back into power, maybe he’s reminding them who’s boss, or that they’ve displeased him?
One thing is for sure, if I were an aid worker I wouldn’t set foot there.
They have already asked for help, magnitude showing as 6.1 now. Problems mostly due to poorly built homes and landslides it seems.
thats a crass reply FatticusInch
they are human and of course not ALL alien to us,
Very sad for the innocent people .
Sadly a lot of financial aid has dried up .
The Taliban have asked the UN to assess what’s needed. They’ll get international
help.
Equally sadly, you can't have it all your own way.

Mother nature is greatest.

Just trying to encourage those not alien to us to stand up for themselves against the Taliban and rid themselves of them.
If they’d fought a little harder 18 months ago they might have held out but like most countries, they need strong leaders not corrupt ones.
Hopefully the good ones will rise to the top and make a fist of things.
you mean fight with wooden sticks against the Taliban's Kalashnikovs
yeh great idea,!
Chortle
Very sad. Afghanistan has been troubled by one thing or another for decades now.

You mean the 20 years of Coalition/ISAF troops who did their best to train and arm them didn’t register with you?
The UK alone lost 457 service personnel.
If the locals spent as much time fighting for themselves as they did smoking weed they’d have been making an effort.
You have absolutely no idea.
And I'm being polite, in the light of your other appalling remarks.

Thousands of Afghan servicemen and women died defending their country from the Taliban.
"If I was an aid worker"

Well, that's one piece of good news at least :-)
Nasty. Good luck to them trying to sort the situation out.

We're very lucky we have next to no quakes here in the UK.

Did they? I must have missed those news bulletins and reports whilst busy watching HM Forces repatriation flights back to the UK.
Yes, you obviously did.
This "news story" didn't start with repatriation flights.
