Thank God it’s not a death sentence that HIV once was
clap trap, its anyone who's infected straight /bi /gay that can transmit it
Question Author
Then why’s it only gay and Bi being offered the vaccine?
Somebody got the wrong end of the stick and somebody else was panicked into action.

Much the same as what we've just lived through in my humble opinion.

The vaccine is to be offered to 'some' gay and bisexual men- those who have multiple partners, participate in group sex or attend 'sex on premises' parties'. I expect this won't be the majority.
I think that this type of media headline is extremely unhelpful and could stigmatise it - much like HIV was known as the "gay plague" back in the day.

Close physical contact with an infected person can spread this virus. The WHO opine that the reason that more gay and bisexual men appear to have it is that this demographic are more positive at health seeking and many of these cases were identified at sexual health clinics.

Even the chap in that article says that the vaccine ought to start being offered to female sex workers.
we have had this before
Mainly London mainly gay ( men) - that is in numbers
NOT transmitted by sex so is NOT a sexually transmitted disease. As a fact - I had terrible trouble getting the Beeb to accept this

I think you do get it in the period before eruption. The eruption is pretty gross and I just dont know the monkey pox sine eruptione rate. small I think

I dont think you get it from sneezes or hankeys or lavvy seats.

and the vaccine is - - small pox. cross reacts apparently

It is not a big deal
why gay men and bi's
I think the principle is 'ring vaccination'
you dont do the whole population as Covid but where it is found
There have only been 200 - I mean this is peanuts compared to Hep B ( 1.5m world over/y)

ring vaccination works well in meningitis

87% is in men under 50 - - small pox vacc stopped here in 1972

Monkeypox is to be renamed because ... wait for it ... it could "trigger racism".
""Monkeypox is set to be given a new name after scientists complained it could trigger racism. Experts said the way it is referenced as African is "discriminatory and stigmatising" and said it should be called hMPXV.""

Nit picking again.
What about German Measles?
Or The French Pox?
It needs direct body fluid contact, it's not air bourne, of course gay and bisexual men are more susceptible same as with HIV, stands to reason. Just like in the 80s we are not allowed to say the bleedin obvious.
Thanks, Barmaid. I appreciated the additional, balancing information - there's a lot of distorted stuff floating around these days.
// Just like in the 80s we are not allowed to say the bleedin obvious.//
Noop .... again

er there is this disease, and they do know what it is, and it is not an STD and there is a vaccine. The end

so yes TTT you ARE allowed to say the bleeding obvious but as usual, you dont

it is not and STD in the normal sense but it will mostly be transmitted by sex, gay sex, end of.
TTT, the bleeding obvious is that it is transmitted by close physical contact. That might be men with men, men with women, women with women, mixed groups.

Of course, we may wish to ignore anything the WHO say and instead bow to the greater, prejudiced knowledge of some keyboard warrior on the www. I'll go with WHO who make it clear that close physical contact is how it spreads and because more gay and bisexual men seek the advice of sexual health clinics this is why more of them have been identified.

I am married and monogamous, but if I weren't and were sexually active, I would consider myself to be at risk. When you sleep with someone, you are putting yourself at risk that any of their previous sexual partners may be infected and any of those sexual partners may be infected etc etc.
then we agree close physical contact, yep!
What they said was that the vaccine should be offered to "some" gay and bisexual men. They didn't mean all gay and bisexual men. Just the ones at the higher end of the promiscuity scale (and believe me, some of their promiscuity is off the scale as far as most hetrosexuals is concerned)
Remember Wuhan? The place in China with a lab that was working on the covid virus, and just happened to be the place that had the first outbreak in the general public? Guess which other virus they were "working with". Correct, ... Monkeypox.
*are* concerned. *heterosexuals* Jesus!
