as gay. Who cares? 'I want people to know the real me', he says. His sexuality is of no concern to me or, I imagine, the vast majority of people.

Couldn't care less. I've never heard of the 'unreal' him.

SP, nothing more liberal than letting people get on with whatever lifestyle is their wont. That's what people who don't care do.
Gill Anderton ( Cheif Constable anderton ( obit a few days ago) did exactly that in the eighties

came out as a spoiler to the new of the world

he burst into tears when he read it
SP for someone as bright and as dedicated to defending the plight of minority groups on here I'm frankly stunned that you suggest to Paigntonian getting married or dating women implies a man is straight. Gay men have married women for centuries and vice versa. It proves nothing.
Prudie

It proves nothing. But it implies. That's the word I used.

Also - he said he's straight.
/Hmmm .... so you don't think the OP invited opinions, jno? Okay. I thought otherwise.//

Only those opinions jno agrees with.

I'm in the couldn't care less. It's his business not mine.
so the homophobic football fans won't cheer when he scores a goal, will anyone notice?

If there's nothing more liberal than letting people get on with "whichever lifestyle is their wont", then it makes sense for people to be honest about their sexuality and not hide it.

Straight footballers don't need to lie and obfuscate!

How would Daniels be able to go on dates if he had to live a lie?

Now he's free to live his life honestly.
I have two married friends whose husbands eventually scarpered with other men. As Prudie says, it means nothing.
SP, I don't anyone saying he should hide it.
yeah Prood

a neighbours wife wanted a second white wedding so applied for an annulment, The priest said yeah but all four witness at the service have to swear they knew the groom was gay at the time they supported the marriage....

I said - Jesus ROman Catholic, how many so far ( RCs sort go gooey over oaths, its a witch burning thing I think) - they would have to swear that an oath they took earlier was not true

answer - none. no one would
If you and others don't care then why the thread instead by posting this it shows that you do care and certainly care enough to comment
He has my enormous sympathy and respect. Sympathy for the media attention and no doubt some abuse, I mean.

I have seen first hand the torture of coming out to parents and family. To know that this would be followed by media scrutiny at this level would be overpowering for most.

I wish him well.
Uh-oh Redhelen72…they’ve already gone through that loop on a previous page.

:-)
Hopkirk

Thoroughly concur.

Wish there were more like you.
You might not care, but it is plainly an issue, given he's the first to publicly come out in decades.
His sexuality per se is not the issue.
wouldnt it be great if "famous" sports people didnt have to come out, and could date whoever they wanted without comment by the press or fans. I hope that's the direction we're heading and find it reassuring that people already "dont care"
^Finally someone 'gets it'. Well done, bednobs.
i thought we'd already reached the point where the majority of people didn't care
maybe ael, but i'm not sure the same applies to football fans - as i said let's see if he suffers any on-pitch abuse
// Straight footballers don't need to lie and obfuscate!//
quite

he obviously hasnt seen Roonie and Vardy in court lately - hur hur hur ( This is a comment about an ongoing case so is privileged)
