no and he couldn't if he wanted to.
// Surely this is madness?//

why? Is it running on AB ? ter daah ! yes I am planning to vote labour in the May local elections to punish and warn the sleazy tories
cdnt if he wanted to
you have better tell me why

(he can outvote the parliamentary fixed term act....)
The tories may oust Boris but they'll need a run in for the new man and turkeys don't vote for xmas. It would need well over 100 tories to vote with labour to get an early election and they'll know how vulnerable they are mid term, post crises. This is just wishful thinking from the left wing rag.
Perhaps if they hadn't been so stupidly rebellious they wouldn't be shaking in their boots now. Fools.
He should call for a vote to have a GE NOW. Folks are fed up with all the hoo-hah in Westminster & re-electing the Tories with Boris as leader would make them move on to more important stuff.
it would be madness to have an election now.

"Well Boris does show some signs of madness especially when he is raving on like a lunatic at the despatch box at pmqs.
Wishful thinking from The Grundian.

It sounds very unlikely, but the Guardian are talking to senior Tories in that report.
Perhaps Boris wonders what the 80 majority is for when all his new red wall Tory MPs rebelled against him last week. A more manageable 20 seat majority might be preferred.
Gromit, did you bother to read my link? Boris has a lot of support in the so called red wall constituencies.
The problem is gromit that you and the anti government mob are squealing so loud about trivia that you do not realise the quiet support Boris still has in both the party and the country. Most of the country are sick to death of the daily sniping over irrelevant trivia. Next GE 2024 Boris wins, Labour dump Rodders, end of.
the left think if they constantly bring up partygate thye will get an election maybe, never mind the energy and food crisis, illegal migrants, ukraine war... etc...
well they haven't won an election since 1974 so I guess they'll try anything.
Fender, Don't think constantly harping on about 'partygate' will benefit the lefties much:-

dannyk13, good one i didnt spot that in the one..
It is not madness if Boris looks like winning an election. He has a lot of support in the country.
Boris should go to the country on a "back me or sack me" ticket. The opposition are ineffectual & a Tory majority (albeit somewhat reduced) would spike the anti-Boris backstabbers in his own party.

I think the Westminster bubble would be shocked by how much support he has from the voters.

Isn’t that what Theresa May did with disastrous consequences that led to her ousting?
