A mean sectarian remark by a Glasgow Celtic idiot fan.
The Tweet was designed to offend, and it did.
But I am not sure why we are wasting court time, money and effort on prosecuting. People who use social media do so voluntarily and they know it is not properly moderated. So if they see a Tweet from an idiot, so what?
If the Police were going to prosecute anyone, it should be Tweeter for publishing the offensive material.

No one on AB should be prosecuted for the rubbish they write. I am sure if an offensive Post such as the one by the Celtic supporter, were to appear on AB, then it would be quickly removed, and the perpetrator banned.

I agree with gromit, we spend too much effort on getting in a tizzy over morons on twitface et al. It's offensive, sure, but are we going to track down and prosecute every eejit tapping bile on a keyboard? If there is an offender here it's Twitter for not censuring and banning the offender.

Talk about famous for 15 minutes.Captain Sir Tom Moore lived for 99 years and no one had ever heard of him.He did do that fund raising walk around his garden(fair play to him) and now there’s hardly a day goes by if we don’t hear or read his name somewhere,sadly mostly about where a lot of donations may or may not have gone too.

This individual was drunk and, apparently, soon regretted posting his tweet. However, looking at the last line in the link:
"Kelly, who was reprimanded by the sheriff for laughing as he sat in the dock, did not give any evidence during the trial."
I see then he was not full of remorse for his stupid action. Personally I would have liked to see him get a custodial sentence.

It is important that the case went to court. With so much traffic in and access to social media it is both important and necessary for their to be some reckoning for those who seem unwilling and/or unable to exercise self control.

Yes I wouldn't mind an answer. Offending somebody does not necessarily cause them harm - especially when they are dead. It strikes me that the Communications Act (under which this odious creature was charged) seems to have criminalised behaviour which, but for the medium used, would not be an offence in any other circumstances. The creep simply published his opinion, disagreeable as that may be.
