I’m sure the parents who have gone through this have learned but many other parents who have dogs don’t believe their dog to be capable of harming their child because bad things only happen to other people.

It's a hard way to learn a lesson.
Dog owners are always amazed when their beloved pet turns, offering the tired mantra 'He's never done that before ...' and you'd have to hope he hadn't!!

Dog owners who confidently boast "My Fido would never hurt a fly!" are deluding themselves.

Any dog can turn, at any time, and any owner who does not understand that us an idiot.

The problem is, that first and only time so often has tragic consequences.
Your statement is correct. Three dogs in the same house as a child, i am afraid it is asking for trouble.
Indeed.

Packs have top dogs, which means one or more are going to fancy a crack at pole position.

And if the child is perceived by the dogs as top dog, and parents usually make it so, it's always going to end in tears.
