Camilla's popularity with the public is on the up. Should she, when the time comes, become Queen?

Personally, I think she's doing a good job so I would be happy to see her take her place beside Charles as his queen. What say you?

Yes, she has paid her dues, completed the course and passed with flying colours.

Hoppy "in line to the Greek throne". And just what "throne" would that be? His family didn't even live in Greece.

"Would Prince Phillip be heir to the Greek throne?
No. Philip is a UK citizen and renounced his former titles and allegiance prior to marrying then-Princess Elizabeth.

Even if he had not, his father, Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark, was the 4th son (and 7th child) of King George I of Greece. The succession passed through George’s oldest son, Constantine I. All three of Constantine’s sons eventually became King of Greece.
This post is getting really boring and I'm probably contributing to that so will bow out now.
Lol @ Maggie.
Just a yes from me. Charles should become King and Camilla should be Queen Queen. She's seems very suitable for the role. I am glad they eventually got together.
I agree with Pat2604. Camilla's fine by me. Charles shouldn't abdicate - give William and Katharine time to grow into the jobs and enjoy their youngsters while they can. They are shaping up well, i.m.o..
Maggie, I accept that Philip would not have have inherited the Greek throne.
However at his birth, he was indeed sixth in line to the Greek throne.

With that mean-spirited diatribe, you’ve probably bored yourself, maggiebee.
The monarchy is rooted totally and absolutely in tradition.

That is why the idea of Charles 'passing the throne' to William will never even be considered, it is not the protocol, so it won't happen.

It's safe to say that Charles will inherit the throne and remain there until his death, when William will take over.

We can;t know what will happen then - William may have other ideas for the succession, or even for the monarchy, but for the living heirs at this time, everything is laid down and will follow the tradition.

As for Camilla being Queen, if the protocol allows for it, I don't think it will be an issue for the people.

Camilla has fought, and won, a seriously uphill battle to win the popularity she now enjoys, it would be unreasonable to deny her the role at her husband's side that tradition indicates is hers by right.
maggie - // The Queen, Prince Charles, Princess Margaret, William, Harry, Anne, Edward and Andrew all married "commoners" ... //

Camilla is a 'commoner' but Diana was not - quite the opposite.

The Spencers can trace their family line directly back to Henry VIII - in the terms of ancestry, she was actually more 'royal' than Charles.
presumably if Charles died she'd become Queen Stepmother?
andy, I believe a commoner is someone who's not a peer of the realm.

On that basis, Diana was a commoner and Jeffrey Archer isn't; funny old system.
My betting is on Charles popping his clogs before his mother....this last happing with George 2 to 3 - 3 being his grandson - otherwise we would have had a King Fred - as in Shred?

You could very well be right - this is not my area of expertise.
Charles is 73
His time has passed
He has been made to wait too long to become king
Better to hand it to someone younger
Just like his mother when she was crowned
She has done a pretty good job
I would very much doubt that Diana would have made a good queen. She liked attention too much. Camilla doesn't court the press. She acts with integrity and is very gracious. People were very very cruel with the insults in earlier years..
Although Queen Camilla doesn't sound right to me!! ;O)
AH, "The Spencers can trace their family line directly back to Henry VIII - in the terms of ancestry, she was actually more 'royal' than Charles. " - well you have excelled yourself there Andy, Charles has a direct bloodline back to William I, I'd be interested in your justification for that statement.
I suspect Charles will be an interfering old buzzard when he's king - but if the job is his right, then that's irrelevant. There's no way he's going to abdicate in favour of his son, he's been waiting too long.

But what does anyone know about whether William would be any good? He's not had the years of training, and he might turn out to be useless.
Basically, I agree with Andy. William will probably have to wait and is probably glad of it. Our poor Queen was thrust into the position when she was far too young. She never had any time to have a normal life.
