New Year's Eve plans in England have been given the green light, as Sajid Javid confirmed the government will not be imposing any further restrictions before the New Year.

Yes it is the right decision (and the remaining restrictions should be lifted also).
That’s good news NJ , thanks for sharing
Those with any sense of proportion, or realistic lifestyle strategy, sincerely hope so Judge. We somehow need to break the self destructive cycle of fear that became the go to solution for the feeble minded.
Does this mean the Scots will head south for their Hogmanay ;0))
Most definitely the right decision. Sturgeon and Drakeford have jumped the gun and imposed unnecessary restrictions on the Scots and the Welsh (Drakeford even suggested fining people for going to work if they can work from home. Fining people for going to work!)
Prepare for a lot more deaths down in England then NJ.A lot more anti-vaxxers down there in England, than there is in the more sensible part of the union.
Drakeford is a wassock - even my Welsh friends think so!
I think it's the right move for most people, those who need to take extra care will continue to do so.
I would reserve judgement for a day or two

Let us wait and see what super spreader events we get over New Year’s Eve and the resultant bed crisis before getting ahead of ourselves

What new year plans in England anyway ?
Trafalgar Square is cancelled and the pubs will be restricted anyway
No ?
Considering that for the past 2/3 weeks the powers that be said that the new virus would double every 2/3 days, I'ts not happened. We had got 30/40k per day before the new virus.
It’s the right decision for those that go out , we don’t, much prefer a quiet night in although we went out for years ,even queued to get in our local, no more though
I agree with the post of Stickybottle.

I have no idea at this stage if it is the right or wrong decision.

I just dont trust the English populace to act responsibly.
I take it you've not seen all the protests in other European countries, sqad?
I have indeed roy, but my interests lie fairly and squarely in England.
Thank you Sqad I am honoured !

Lol
Meaning what ?
That a few of the great unwashed in those countries do not like having their party plans curtailed ?
Figures over bookings and hospitality over the last week tell you what you need to know
The general public are proceeding with caution
As they ought to for a week or two
The public last night were out in force.

You just stay safe under your blanky, sticky.
It has looked, for some time now, likely that we are all going to become "infected" with this virus. All lockdown and isolation measures Worldwide have not stopped the spread and developement of the virus. However the vaccine programme has now made it likely that you will easily survive and in some cases not show more than common cold symptoms if you have had the offered vaccines. There are now treatments coming on stream that can be taken at home for anyone, including the anti vaxers, should they show signs and test positive. Time to remove the shieldwall that was erected to protect the people who were supposed to protect, and serve, us.
// Drakeford even suggested fining people for going to work //

he's done more than suggest it - it's written into law:-

https://gov.wales/sites/default/files/publications/2021-12/the-health-protection-coronavirus-restrictions-no-5-wales-amendment-no-23-regulations-2021.pdf

//(4) After regulation 42 insert—
“Offence of failing to work from home where
reasonably practicable to do so
42A. A person who, without reasonable
excuse, contravenes the requirement in
regulation 18B commits an offence.” //

I didn’t realise Drakeford had actually it.

That’s outrageous - you couldn’t make this pony up.
