We must make ourselves less attractive to stop the flow of people risking their lives to get here

RH - you should become a missionary!

As no doubt the op will tell you I am too evil to be a missionary.
But interesting that a post taking the *** out of me is given best answer!
Not showing your bias at all eh bobbi
I agree, bobbi, as I said on a previous thread. We can't even look after everyone here... how are we unable to, but can afford so many more?

Hi Pixie, the many hotels that are housing illegal immigrants are staggering yet prior to the massive influx now by sea as the trucks didn’t work , nothing but nothing was done for those sleeping rough, some are ex servicemen who gave their all to their country, others are people who’ve fell on hard times, not a thing has ever been done to help them
I was only thinking about the poor homeless on our streets the other night when the temperature dropped to below zero, it must have been hell. We simply MUST put these people first, especially if they are ex servicemen !!

Something that a hell of a lot of people let go by the board BS, they should be asking themselves what happens when the FNLI boats go to rescue them ? Where are they taken go?
Then think of those who won’t have a warm bed for the night!
burleyshirley - I couldn't agree more. Right now I'm working to boost donations to an organisation which helps the local homeless and families 'on the edge'. Our own people must come first. There's a rather unpleasant cartoon going the rounds where an official explains to a homeless ex-services man that the migrants in the hotel don't want to see him in the street as it upsets them.

In essence the point is right. I also agree that our country is too easy to live in without controls and have tried to explain this before.
Ex-servicemen, ex-taxpayers, anyone human or animal.... deserve not to be sleeping on the streets... dont understand the logic, myself.
If I could I would love to help. We don't have any people where we live on the streets, but I do give to the Salvation Army so they can provide Christmas dinners to those in need. It's not much to offer, but it's really all I can do. They really should come first.
I always give to my local Sally Army Jourdain as they help so many, particularly at this time of year. It's just not right that our own are ignored while more and more economic migrants flood in !!
Jourdain, I would like you to repeat the excellent piece you posted the other day about foreigners living in France. That might go some way to explaining why these people are so keen to take advantage of our generosity.
Re homeless...there should be no difference whether they are ex servicemen or not. I honestly find making differences like that to be cruel.
Luckily most of the homeless down here are sheltered as far as I know...thanks to covid. Those in power got their a***s in gear for once.
To anyone who wants to help local organisations - there are many food collection points - supermarkets do it, also many churches have a box. Our village church has a well supported box which is filled very regularly at the moment and the contents go straight to the people who give them out. Currently they are trying to fill 500 hampers - in 2019 it was 205.
There's nearly always a chap sat outside the local rail station with his dog - I feel sorry for both of them. He gets lots of food bought for him and his dog and he's a lovely, polite man. I know he is often helped by the Sally Army.
Burly...give to local organisations also...they are likely to need money more than the Sally army.
naomi - I would, but I don't know how to copy it and it's a lot of words to re-type. You have my permission to lift it if you wish.
Oh don't be so silly pasta, cruel because I mentioned ex servicemen !! I care about ALL homeless .... I just made a point that's all !

I buy 4 Christmas dinners £10 each and fill a zip bag with toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, gloves , a hat etc , for my local charity called Making Winter Warmer ,that shouldn’t be, they should be offered the same as what these economic migrants get ,some may not want it but to my knowledge , they’ve never been given a choice !
The trouble is Shirley, I end up feeling more sorry for, and worry about the dogs!
Also, why are you telling me who I should give to ??
I've just come back from walking my dog and see RH has answered my question. Thank you. Are you really serious that there should be no limit on how many we take.
