This morning I received an email, seemingly from Talktalk (my ISP) saying they will be upgrading my broadband to fibre, meaning faster speeds at no extra costs and that I will get a phone call from an Outreach engineer letting me know when the upgrade will take place. They don't ask for any personal details, etc, but how do I know this isn't a scam?...anyone else on TalkTalk had a mail like this? - and apropos of nothing, why do I get "red flag" preceding some emails and not others, they're not important? Look up talktalk's email address or phone number (do not use the one on their email unless the one you look up is identical) and ask them.

I had a similar email from 3BB (my provider) and it was genuine.

Many Thanks JJ - TT are not always that forthcoming, but I'll give it a try!
I had the same and it was genuine. After several "offers" trying to persuade me to buy even faster broadband they sent me the same offer as you; I accepted it - no problems.
how did they address you?
if it was dear customer or dear "email address" it's usually a scam
If it was dear "real name" usually not
//upgrading my broadband to fibre, meaning faster speeds at no extra costs //
surely there's a catch?

Very Many Thanks BHG for that and yes, Bednobs, I was addressed as real name, even though my real name aint real name, it's Terry, but I guess you didn't know that or need too, but anyway, there it is or even was and I bet this beats any old reply you've ever had, but then that's not bad, as it's only meant to give a smile, but I could have just said Ta, but this is better by far...innit?...what boys agree?...one for H Williamson fans there!
ael - the possible "catch" was having to commit to TalkTalk for 18 months/2 years or something. I've been with them for many years and always been happy with the service, so it was a no-brainer. I was already on fibre but the upgrade to even-faster fibre was arranged with Openreach and went very smoothly.
i've also been with talk talk for many years, how do i know if i'm on fibre or even faster fibre?
Same as aelmpvw for me. Be interested in this answer as I've had no communication from talktalk.
I'm thinking it will all be fibre eventually & anyone who hasn't paid to have it previously will be automatically upgraded.
ael - log in to your TalkTalk account and look under "My Package".
Probably genuine, especially as they don't appear to be asking for your details.
Our broadband had the same upgrade some years back. It's because of a relaying of cables. which automatically upgrades anyone connected.

For those ABers on TalkTalk - thank goodness I'm not on my own! - yesterday I received a mail saying my broadband has now been upgraded to Fibre 35 at no extra cost!...I hope other TT users will now have same info!
