....so lets stop letting the THB drag us down and get on with getting back to normal. No special measures are needed, just get on with it. Yes the link is a few weeks old but there is no reason to believe the data has changed.

//It might go away? Not// No, it won't go away. It will spread and nothing, short of placing the entire population under house arrest will prevent that. Viruses do not go away and the sooner that is accepted the better. This ridiculous notion that wearing a piece of damp rag around your face will prevent a virus spreading needs to be done down for what it is - a...

I would say about 70% of passengers on the tube wear masks (more at rush hour) and about 90% on London buses.
not today, 237SJ: I'd have said no more than 50% on the tube, maybe less, and even less so in the more crowded central London sections.
Maybe it depends whereabouts in London you go. And ... this is really going to upset some people on here but I do find that ethnic communities do tend to be less inclined to use masks. Sorry but that is what I have observed (not that worries me, people can do what they like as far as I`m concerned)
//Well it depends on your definitions but if you get on a tube train or bus where masks are still compulsory...//

Yes it does depend on your definitions but they are not compulsory. They are a "condition of carriage". But more than that the condition is totally unenforceable. A passenger without a face covering who is challenged has only to declare he is exempt and the staff member making the challenge has absolutely no power to demand proof of that exemption nor to deny travel. They can call the police who do have the power to remove the passenger but they must have a good reason to suspect that the claimed exemption is not genuine. However the chances of them attending (or of the staff member delaying the bus or train) is remote. The mask mandate in London is a political gesture by the Labour Mayor to signal his greater virtue than the Tory government and it is a totally toothless animal.

//It seems to me that lots of people have perceived lockdown as normal and don't want to come out of it.//

I'm afraid you're right. The government's strategy last year has denuded many people of their spirit, common sense and logical thinking ability. I'm sure they're very proud.
By the way, I travel in London extensively by both bus and tube. Only the very occasional "reminder" about face coverings is issued on buses and I cannot recall hearing one on the tube. Compliance is variable but in most places on buses it is less than 50% and on the tube probably about the same.
As I've said all along, I don't care if people choose to not be vaccinated. It's a shame they're causing so much work for the hospitals, but they're entitled to health care like the rest of us.

i think you need your hearing checked...
//i think you need your hearing checked...//

I've just returned from making two bus trips of about fifteen minutes each. No reminders of any sort were broadcast despite the majority of passengers boarding without face coverings.
They play them all the time on the jubilee line
