Brexit sweetie
someone started a thread about the long term advantages of Brexit
we wanted to split from a federalised European Union, and we broke away, much to the chagrin of the French, who seem to think we should have stayed no matter what.

@08.04.Your friend posted that for you,Peter.
There is the little matter about the cont ( moolah Britain paid to stay in the EU ) It meant Germany would probably have to pay which i think they are doing ....
we have paid billions into the coffers, one wonders what do we have to show for it.

For a start we have £18 billion we can pump into the NHS,emmie. So why am i being asked to pay more national insurance to pay for the NHS.Where has the promised £350 million a week(as promised on the side of a bus)disappeared to?
The rise in NI is to pay for increasing demand of social care - the cost of being old, not the NHS
barry is correct, its for social care not so much the NHS
Question Author
Great news,Bazza. So the NHS will be getting all this £18 billion after all.

You lost. Get over it
"A recent report by Transport Intelligence highlighted the fact that Britain is not alone in Europe when it comes to HGV driver shortages. Data from 2020 shows Germany short of 45,00-65,000 drivers, while in Poland, whose population is just over 50% of the UK's, the number is almost 124,000 - noticeably higher than the 100,000 UK figure referred to by the RHA. Despite this, shelves in Poland's supermarkets are fully stocked...
After being asked that very question regarding the driver shortages in Poland and the apparent disparity in supply chain disruption compared to Great Britain, Mr Clover explained that post-Brexit changes have been an additional factor for UK supply chains."

Interesting article.

https://trans.info/en/there-s-a-europe-wide-hgv-driver-shortage-so-why-do-uk-supply-chains-seem-more-disrupted-254524
the driver shortage is particularly bad in the UK because thousands of european drivers left and the ones that are currently active within the EU are going to shun the UK because hauling stuff into this country is now a massive faff.

Brexit is not the root cause of the driver shortage but it has made it far worse than it would otherwise have been... thank you leave voters.

You're welcome - it's about time Britain learned to stand on its own two feet again without the help of all those forriners!
"You lost. Get over it"

all of us lost.
The UK is now cut off from the large European labour market.
When you combine issues like Covid, when driver training stopped, poor wages and conditions etc then it’s a recipe for problems as we see.
It’s the usual story: do we want the services at a good price or do we want better pay but higher prices.
At the moment the actual services are grinding to a halt
