I have a feeling that nothing is clear to you ...ever. Perhaps you need to listen a bit more rather than shouting at every opportunity. Go and find a question or point that matters.
//If the lorry driver shortage is nothing to do with Brexit, how is offering temporary visas to foreign lorry drivers going to fix anything?//

It isn't.
This may help the hard of comprehension.

I still can’t figure out why, if this is all down to Brexit, it didn’t happen sooner. Common sense dictates it should have happened a long time ago.

Brexit, followed by Covid, set off several chains of events that are still playing out. Eventually things happen, the "tipping point", the "straw that breaks the camel's back", and things start falling apart. That's where we are now. What happens next will depend on a number of things - the Government, us all, our neighbours and trading partners, events ... exciting, isn't it?

Exactly. The EU lorry drivers who supposedly left the UK because of Brexit would have done so long ago, not in the past couple of weeks. As far as the tanker problem goes, the major suppliers all agree that there are the same number of tankers working today as there were during the summer. If anything, a few more because fewer drivers are on holiday. The country has not suddenly lost 50% of its tanker drivers but it is said that 50% (some reports quote a much higher percentage) of filling stations are of of fuel. No business can cope with a sudden fivefold increase in demand but that's exactly what has happened. And it happened because drivers panicked when they read reports that a few locations had temporarily run dry. When you see people buying bottles of water only to empty them on the forecourt and fill them with fuel, you know they've lost their marbles.
judge: "When you see people buying bottles of water only to empty them on the forecourt and fill them with fuel, you know they've lost their marbles. " - gawd were they doing that? MAABOF!
