...so why are the Taliban so against it for girls?
the Prophet Muhammad told his followers:
"Acquisition of knowledge is binding on all Muslims, male and female."
"Seek knowledge, from the cradle to the grave."
"Acquire knowledge, even if you have to go to China for it."
"The person who goes forth in search of knowledge is striving hard in the way of Allah, until his/her return."

good collection
clearly the current Taliban are relying on the collection of sayings that explain the very words of God - - - Hadith

at the time this is reccorded - they didnt have secondary schools, O levels and Oxford and Cambrdige - you do know that dont you
I read the other week the reason given was males and females had to be educated by teachers of the same sex.

There is a shortage of female teachers and one suggestion was men could teach from behind a sheet but I have no idea if anything is being done to rectify the situation.
the these muslims, girls women are property and if they are educated they may become knowledgeable and quetion there master oh sorry husbands decisions, and if said couple are out, and said salve wife questions master husband, that will not do, i suppose thye would prefer there slaves wives to be deaf and dumb..harsh word that.

right fender, so the koran is clearly not the be all and end all to them, they'll ignore the bits they don't like!
"...they'll ignore the bits they don't like!"

That's just life though, innit.
PP, the Hadith doesn’t explain the words of God. It records the words of Mohammed.
ToraToraTora, interpretation so im told, goes for all religions i presume, theland was good at that, also cherry picking as the the taliban, all i see and hear are uneducated bandits, and any education they may have had it knowing the koran by rote and i also presume in arabic only kind of limits there education of the 21 century, except how to use modern weapons, i doubt any have read chaucer or yates. let alone any of einsteins theories
In Islam women are not allowed to teach older boys or men anyway. Only girls, women and little boys.
Fender; have you read chaucer or yates, or einsteins theories? I bet more of the Taliban know some English than we know of their language.
Atheist, what is that to do with the Q?
What did, "yates" write?
My question is to FENDER.
Atheist, yes i have read chauce and yates and einsteins theories, infact im am very well read so to speak, it was expected in my house and college and university, i have always had an interest in books, although i preferred dickens as he had a way with words that made you think ponder question.
Fender; you've put me in my place. But still, you seem to be judging the Taliban by your own ideas about literature. I suspect there's more knowlege of western ideas than you think, although that doesn't mean I have any support for the Taliban. For the record, I don't love them and I do't hate the UK (just in case TTT is preparing a tirade).
More like more propaganda than knowledge.
Damn savages, ought to be...
Any country which ignores the talents of half their population is doomed to fail.
CrapAtCryptics, exactly remember the khmer rouge, nothing gained but death and destruction, whole generations and for what.
reminds me of the kosovo massacres, took the west to sort it out, and at the same time russia knew and did nothing, great country..yet turned a blind eye to the killings wholesale, sad beyond words.
yet got involved at the last minute to secure that airport ermm
It's the difference between normal Muslims and Islamic fundamentalists. Most Muslims, certainly most outside of Asia, don't agree with, or support ISIS and the Taliban.
