Boris promised not to increase Income tax , vat, or National Insurance if you voted for him.
He has now changed his mind and is going to increase Nat ins . Coupled with a strong possibility of smashing the State Pension Triple Lock, while he's at it.

OK Zacs. Good input, thanks.
it's almost as if there has been some crises!

DD: "Your posts, Gulliver, grow more inane by the day - I didn’t think that was even possible. " another contender for BA, right there.
I'm alright Jack comes to mind.
TBH I would not want a leader that sticks to the manifesto come what may. When things change the approach must also.
Quelle surprise? Why? How do you manage your finances when you suddenly have to meet unexpected expenses?

Booo whoever deleted Gulliver’s insult and deleted its answer. I take pride in being called stupid by Gulliver

Lol, did he really ?
A case of
Hello Pot this is Kettle…over ?
Following an expected bill of £400bn for a global pandemic, man has to tweak the budget.

Hold the front page...

Don't ask me why, but when I saw this in latest posts Gully instantly sprang to mind...
Frothy pack this morning again.
^ like sparkling Champagne - bringing a little sweetness to the sour. ;o)
The thing is though, it's almost as if Bojo is blaming everyone else and it's our fault that he had to do what he did, so we is gonna pay!
How is he blaming anyone else? He did have to do what he did.
I would have thought all the labour supporters would be highly delighted that the government is considering raising taxes and spending even more money, after all, that is what they always call for.

Wow
It is almost as if the last 18 months of global crisis and the costs involved have just passed some people by
Ignorance is bliss I guess
We have to pay this money back, I just fervently hope that everybody has to contribute and not just those (as Ashworth and Sturgeon have said in the past with tax rises) that it is not just those with the “broadest shoulders”.

Everybody has been affected, and therefore it follows that everybody pays.
The thing that strikes me about the pandemic is that people have this conception that there was definitely no other way to deal with it. It's as if, what happened, was the only option. A strong leader would not have closed down the country. Johnson was/is only interested in power.

To be fair Sir Keir and his Labour team made several suggestions for raising money but none of them came anywhere near the £10 billion that Bozo identified, which suggests if Labour had been in power the can would just have been kicked further down the road.
As a leftie I’m quite pleased with Johnson’s proposals.
When those manifesto promises were made there was no foreknowledge of Covid, things are different now, I think people would have accepted a rise in income tax just as well. We are in a radically different economic and social climate now, we need additional funding for health and social care and the money t red has been chopped up for firewood.
All this talk about the cap being unfair because people with more money or valuable property pay the same as everyone else is in my mind wrong. Those who worked harder, saved more, shouldn't have to pay for the rest who didn't and those who couldn't will be protected to some extent.. I am only sorry for the next generations who will still be paying for the Covid burden.

Now we also need to make it easier for the established and positively assessed care providers to build or redevelop more residential care and nursing homes, more supply will moderate prices through competition. Maybe priority for unused local authority land, and when new hospitals are considered factor in associated care facilities on site with possibly subsidised partnerships. Add in a better inspectorate as well, with real powers to deal with the poor providers.
