Would appear that no country is immune to this scourge. Many grieving families left behind.

Drug-related deaths in England and Wales have reached their highest levels since records began as they rose for the eighth year in a row, figures show.

There were 4,561 deaths related to drug poisoning in England and Wales in 2020, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

It was the highest number since records began in 1993 and up 3.8% from the previous year.

Your opening statement is spot on, virtually nowhere is unscathed by this awful business.
Scotland has also recorded its highest figure ever - the highest in Europe. Dreadfully sad that anyone goes down that route.
I see that the figures for England and Wales were mentioned on the other thread also.

These figures always seem to overlook deaths caused by tobacco and alcohol, the 'acceptable' drugs.
It’s dreadful Maggie. Too serious to be politicised I’d think though .
Lockdown?
I would certainly think increase of alcohol is the result of ‘ lockdown’ .
18.34. Exactly, anneasquith, which is why I felt Scotland’s figures should be included here.
// Scotland has also recorded its highest figure ever //
yeah at 1300
highest per head

normalised against population - just in case anyone reads this
oh well as I said in the other thread

actually it isnt - with 130 000 deaths from Covid, I thought
why on earth are we discussing this?
Naomi.mamma posted an interesting thread .
As posted elsewhere.
Imagine a world without recreational drugs. Imagine a world where years ago drug makers and dealers were re-educated by death. What a difference to today’s mess.
A missed opportunity. Severity from the onset years ago would have seen a different world, a better people. I know that there has always been drug abuse. But not on this all encompassing scale. Though the evil is allowed to proliferate.
Sorry, a link at 17.29
anneasquith, //Naomi.mamma posted an interesting thread .//

I know. I've seen it before. Why are you telling me that?
Many countries around the World are suffering this, many worse than the UK.

Difficult to know the answer.
