A difficult one. I tend to think that teaching modern languages is more beneficial to the majority - but I would welcome teaching Latin selectively - which makes it elitist. No?

Poles - OK not neutral, not english speaking but didnt like Nazis much. and what about boys and girls..... republic of ireland - welcomed with open arms

I loved Latin - I got my O in it and moved on to Geography in which I got the first ever grade 1 at O-level and I went on to A-levels with it and it was my first degree.....Now if I hadn't dumped Latin, aged 13, going on 14. And Ancient History, Greek or Hebrew were on my charts,

My Goddaughter got a 1st in Latin from Durham and now pulls down one hell of a screw in London......maybe I did go wrong!

I can recite the Alphabet backwards (my party trick)

When is ANY comprehensive school kid ever going to use Latin in their life except to say

I was also taught techninical drawing/metal work/and art.
All of which were bull to me, then & now

I was NEVER taught thinking critical thing skills,
Which might have helped me manage my life better, then & now

It helps, everywhere... that's the point. And nobody speaks Latin.

Why is it taught anywhere, totally useless ( dead ) language.

yes, dtc did up there ^^^^
you could say merere bonum stipendium. But you might be paid in salt, which is what "salary" means.
