Cutting Hair With Clippers

Any tips for cutting an elderly gent's hair with clippers? He has lots of hair but it is very fine, like a baby's, so the clippers tend to just run over it instead of cutting it.
I have tried combing it up but it turns out very clumpy.

Any advice gladly received, as always. Going to a barber's or having a mobile barber come to the house are not options.

Try holding the hair high with a comb without the attachments on the clipper.

I might get my wife to try that method :D Thanks, teacake
Would scissors not be better??

I've never cut anyone's hair with scissors
Hold the hair away from the scalp with a fine comb and run the clippers over the comb. Or better still use cllippers with a comb fitting that will lift the hair and avoids too short cuts
