With regard to the blood, I assume we have learnt from past errors and know better what we’re doing now. I can’t see a problem with it.

Well Naomi, it's a very simple answer. Yes, it's perfectly wise and there is absolutely no need to worry as long as all blood, regardless of the sexuality of the donor, is checked, which I hope it will be.

Shall we address the elephant in the room? Clearly Tora is talking about the risk of blood being infected with HIV. HIV is not a "gay disease" any more. As I said earlier, it isn't 1984. There is just as much risk of infection from a hetrosexual couple as the is from a gay couple. All blood needs to be checked, that's the only way to avoid contamination.

I would imagine that companies who specialises in Autologous blood banking may well be looking at increased business. I remember, many years ago reading a sci-fi novel where it was compulsory for everyone to subscribe to a personal blood bank for future use. It was a crime to take someone else's blood or to administer it. I will come. Experiments already take place on mice where older mice are given their own blood from when they were much younger. These mice are healthier and live much longer.

ymb, does it need discussing? it seems a fait accompli to me, not a consultation. anyone unwell enough to need a blood transfusion is hardly going to refuse (IMO)
