Victory for common sense as history cannot be removed on a whim whether we like it or not

A few snowflakes will melt though I dare say

I'm afraid they won't let this go until the college is bullied into submission, because that's how they operate, by bullying.
As an aside I wonder if ordinary Zimbabweans think life is better or worse now the whites are no longer in charge.
shrug
It appears to be more about the cost and planning stuff getting it removed rather than anyone seeing sense.
The easiest way to deal with the problem is to change the name on teh statue to "Cecil Zimbab." Job done! :-)
If a student doesn't like it,why go there,go to another establishment.
good, common sense rules...
I dont get the whole statues thing. Cecil Rhodes is long dead and cant do any harm to anyone.
Protests against people who are still alive are probably more effective
Davebro - worse I wld think judging by how many zims have illegally emigrated to South Africa (and SA ain’t no picnic so it shows just how hard Zim is)
// I wonder if ordinary Zimbabweans think life is better//

since it seems a fact of life - criticise the govt ( what feeds you) - and no bag of mealie meal - we will never know

You have to admit in 1980
there was nt a lot of 'no no please dont go' to the white settlers from the matabele/shona
and there was alot of Mugabe is our saintly leader for ever !
Good !
Zim , marxist paradise that it is, was one of the countries - after the death of its father, founder and saviour - thought - well things can get worse ....
// worse I wld think judging by how many zims have illegally emigrated to South Africa //

wasnt there a case where Grace Machel smacked a maid in the gob - ( in South Africa ) after the servant told her what a crap deal it was in Zim
Poinless removing it surely from their point of view as isnt it better to have him there where warts and all can be pointed out?

No one is perfect, except some of these Uni Student sit seems. Boy are they going to have a rude awakening soon!
//But Oriel College said it would not seek to move the statue due to costs and "complex" planning processes.//

How much does it costs to have two blokes pull up in low loader , after the statue had been taken off

As to complex planning laws ,
What planning laws do you need to go through to remove a statue

Just say , its not going to be removed - without silly excuses
Maybe a course on Anglo-Saxon words and their use in dealing with manufactured conflict would be useful.

//What planning laws do you need to go through to remove a statue//

Quite aq few if it is listed. (Not sure if it is though)
It's Grade II listed.
You are right. These college youngsters and their causes are the same as the ones of old times, but these days they have more clout, and people should look at them with amusement and ignore them.
Cant we just paint the statue black?Surely bringing down a black man would be anathema to the BLM thugs.
