I'll leave it to the anti British to find the cloud in this silver lining.

diddly: "Will this though make up for all the job losses on the High St because of the pandemic?" - the job loses on the high st are the inevitable effect of the growth of online shopping. The pandemic has merely accelerated what was already happening. The "high st" in it's traditional form will cease to exist within the next few years.
// Will this though make up for all the job losses on the High St because of the pandemic? //

the writing was on the wall for the high street long ago, the pandemic just accelerated the process. those retailers who were unable or unwilling to adapt to the "new normal" were, and are, doomed.
no, nothing will make up for those losses, one can only hope that many who were on furlough go back to work and that the jobs like pub work will soon fill up with youngsters again.
They are registered in Luxembourg and pay hardly any UK tax.

They have put thousands of UK companies out of business and they did pay tax, local rates and employed local people.

10,000 more jobs - so they’ll need 10,000 bottles for their drivers to pee in.
Nothing anti-British in pointing out Amazon's pitiful tax payments, TTT. Quite the opposite, really.
// ...the company collected record sales income of €44bn (£38bn) in Europe last year but did not have to pay any corporation tax //

// Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, the world's richest man is reportedly buying a boat, a 417-foot superyacht that's so massive it has its own "support yacht" with a helipad, according to Bloomberg. The estimated cost, not including the boat's support boat, is $500 million. //
What's with your anti British botox?

You aren't that dissimilar to Gulliver, TTT.
Thank you Ken and Sunk for putting TTT firmly in his place.

I'm not in my place, corporation tax is a left wing device like all direct taxation to stifle aspiration and progress, the left hate those two tings the most, they like everyone to be earning *** all and they want to take most of that. Hopefully we are in a period of transition that will make our country attractive to huge employers. Not how gromit talks about the avoidance measures but does not mention the hundreds of thousands employed by these companies all paying tax NI, employers NI is on top, all money in the bin. But no let's focus on the fact that someone is buying a boat. The politics of envy is the left wing's stock in trade, stifle ambition at all costs. Personally I'd abolish all direct taxation and turn us into a giant Monaco where you get to choose what you pay tax on.
More jobs is always good news.
i would have thought so, as to putting someone in their place, isn't that rather rude.
"You aren't that dissimilar to Gulliver, TTT."
so true!
"as to putting someone in their place, isn't that rather rude."
except when you do it, of course!
have i ever been rude to you or anyone come to think of it.
if i had offended someone unwittingly i would apologise if it was pointed out.
some of the things you and bobbi write on gullivers posts are vile
