I love the Scottish people. I make an exception for Brown. A most insult-able creature.
I don't see why there's so much butthurt about this. You ask the same question of the Welsh or Northern Irish, and they would put their nations before their Britishness. I expect a great many English folk would too.

really, i don't Mozz, i like being English, British.
Question Author
ok, that;s interesting Naomi,
I think that’s ^ right. I like the way that we all retain our various traditions too.
Question Author
so a bit of empathy for our former PM. Ummmm, not what i was expecting really.
No British rugby team, Khandro? What about the British Lions?
isnt there a long glorious imperial history of all this:
the irish hating the Brits and damning them to hell
and oops yes very nice well paying job as well please
Question Author
i wondered if our Sottish abers feel the same as Gordon.
I am English first and British second.
Question Author
shirley, would you say you feel more English than British...
Yes.
Question Author
ok thanks...
If he feels that way he should have aspired to be First Minister of Scotland rather than PM.....
Question Author
Yes indeed Edmund... perhaps he should have tried, but i guess we had to put him someplace.
I don't think of myself as English or British. My French grandmother had Belgian Parents and my grandfather was a Scot. My dad was Welsh as were his parents. I think of myself as European if I am forced to think of myself at all in terms of belonging to a specific group.
I'd expect I should say I feel American first, but as I write I realise I feel a stronger connection to my mix of English/Irish/ Italian.
Bigoted man!
Seriously though I get his point. I am English first then British.
I would say I'm English. Only other people/ forms, call me British.
