Been pondering on this - should Scotland gain independence I presume the Saltire would then be removed from all the Union Jacks and should Wales go the same way would we then just be left with the cross of St George?
and then we would be left with a white flag !
used they joked by the Italians - hem hem
wales wasnt on the jack when I last looked
[the red cross of St George for the Kingdom of England, the white saltire of St Andrew for Scotland and the red saltire of St Patrick to represent Ireland, ]
The Union Jack/flag has no Welsh insignia on it. Unsurprisingly given the history of how the UK started. Just the crosses of Sts George and Patrick and the Scottish saltire.
However if Scotland and N Ireland left then yes you’d have the English cross, with the Welsh no doubt wondering what was what ...
yeah and when it is a white flag ( gules croix on a field of argent or whatever) wivva red cross - you could fill in the bits with
contemporary themes
like Britannia taking the knee !
the populace draggin a statue by its neck ( for it is Sir E Colman)
Given that N Ireland leaving has always seemed more likely, I’m surprised to reflect that I’ve never heard any discussion of whether it’s doing so might alter the Union Jack/flag
Of course the flag of England always was the Cross of St George,of the Crusaders. Oddly the Dragon of Wales is not represented on the Union flag. I think we can rest easy though. Although it's polite to say the 4 "UK nations" these days it's nonsense. Only Great Britain is the Nation with a seat at the UN. After the hot air at the end day our beloved Wales and Scotland won't want to leave.
