Indeed. That's why when they are taken aboard the Coastguard cutter just inside the UK's waters they should be promptly returned to France instead of being brought to Dover.

Helping those in a former colony of ours is a deliberate choice and some might say obligation. It is utterly ludicrous to try to tie it into the need to control illegal immigration or not controlling who comes in. Immigration needs reversing as we are already far too overcrowded; it doesn't stop us accepting obligations that may delay that necessity.

Since brexit was voted for in 2016 the population of UK has increased by 4 million and thats even after most E/U Immigrants returned to their own country, so there' plenty of room for another few million from H/K

That's an increase of about a million over four years.
