Another Fatal Dog Attack

This time it was two large dogs. Poor woman! Her family must be devastated and angry. Owner has been bailed.

Do dogs just turn or is it the the way they're trained from puppies? This is why I have a slight fear of big dogs. I walk slowly and calmly past them so as not to trigger them.

training as a pup, dogs will not attack, less you go for there food, or another dog not of there pack, id say nasty owners who think its funny to say to young dog gettem...this time it went to far.

Imagine the horror she must have felt when they burst through her fence and what a truly horrible way to die. I bet this isn't the first time they have attacked in the neighbourhood either, probably other dogs and cats. Isn't it time some sort of law was brought in now for dogs that attack and kill ?? The owner will probably come up with all the excuses under the sun as well. So, so sad.

The dogs' owner should go to prison for a long time.

It's very lucky the attacked woman's garden was secure enough to stop the dogs getting out into the street.

I think it's not only the way they are trained but also bred and treated from pups. People who have these kind of dogs have them as a weapon not a pet. I love dogs and the vast majority are not like this at all.

What about designing some sort of muzzle that is comfortable for dogs to wear when out? Not the restrictive ones but ones that are big enough to allow a dog to pant with its tongue out.

I think they already have those one tiggs, but a muzzle wouldn't have helped here anyway, as those dogs 'got out' as many of this type with irresponsible owners do !

I think I know what has happened although I have no proof. Do you know what flock guarding dogs are? they are still used extensively in the more rural parts of europe...go and have a google. Unscrupulous "rescues" are shipping them over here and "rehoming them for a fee" ie selling them they are known by the generic name of Rommie (Roumanian) dogs. They are bred to bond with one or two people and to be fierce with everyone else. They live with the flock to protect it from wolves and thieves. They live in remote areas with little stranger contact. They are working dogs with a massive prey drive. They find it difficult to deal with enclosed spaces, loads of strangers, not being free to make their own decisions, being on a lead.... This is not the first time this has happened, I see comments among my training and rescue friends on FB, this is the first one to get national attention. Its incredibly sad because innocent dogs and humans bear the brunt and the filth who trade in these dogs carry on doing it. They arrive here in vans terrified. Its not unusual that they escape when being unloaded from the van, when being handed over. Its not a question of training, patience, love, firmness, ANYTHING. They are just not suitable for the English environment.

Som daft woman in the village 'rescued' this type of dog (rommie) for a ridiculous donation to a Romanian 'Sanctuary'. It escaped 2 days after being delivered and within a week was shot dead by a gamekeeper on the Fell. Why people feel the need to rescue dogs from abroad beats me when there are so many abandoned dogs in the UK.

I am greatly frightened of dogs having been bitten. And even yesterday, I don't know what dogs see when they see me, but this dog made a beeline for me snapping around my ankles.
I keep meaning to walk with a fork and I am gonna stab the next snapping blighter!!!

That poor lady. Just been reading it. It says she suffered from dementia, so must have been absolutely terrified.
So where was the owner of the dogs while they were ripping this poor lady’s throat out ? surely he could have done something, put the bloody hose on them. It was his responsibility to make sure they were secure in his garden, fixing any open holes in the fence, which it seems is where they got through to the lady’s garden.

The simple fact is, any dog of any size can turn for no apparent reason.

No-one knows how a dog thinks, what it sees and senses and reacts to, or when or what it will do.

People who say 'My dog would never bite...' are naive - any dog can bite.

In a case where the result is fatal, the owner will say "My dog has never done that before!" You would hope not (!) But it only
has to happen once, because once is all it takes.

yes I think so. The breeds that are better known and have been bred for showing away from their home countries for some years have had some of the native traits bred out of them and are more amenable but poor dogs....and yes I know poor lady as well...all victims of greed. As I suspect the owner was.
