While it is hugely regrettable that there has been yet another female murder victim in the UK it behoves anyone concerned about the issue to look at facts, the rates, the gender imbalance, comparisons with other countries and comparison with our own past.

I'll get right on it.
what's you point?
What's your question?
Show us some facts then.
Not sure of your question but............... mother and daughter (allegedly) murdered in the house on the other side of the road from me. Accused has been remanded in custody but as yet no bodies have been found. Mother is in her 20s and daughter 2. Another child is believed to be safe with family. Road is lined with reporters' cars and there are four tents in the garden of the house. All very sad and not sure how the alleged victims turned up in Dundee when they come from Avon.
Now don't be jumping to conclusions maggie !
Trying not to BS - so many stories going around, most of which will turn out to be total rubbish. Strange that the whole garden is being dug up though.
?
I'm not sure comparisons with other countries or the past are particularly useful. But, I have no idea what your point is. It reads as though you think the second part contradicts the first?
Paigntonian - // ... it behoves anyone concerned about the issue to look at facts, the rates, the gender imbalance, comparisons with other countries and comparison with our own past. //

Why?

I am concerned about the issue, I fail to see why researching gender imbalance and comparisons with other countries is going to alter that concern in any way whatsoever, assuming I would bother to take the time, which I won't.
Gender imbalance - it makes it sound like someone is failing to meet some sort of published quota.
The leader of the Green Party in the House of Lords, (can't Remember her name), wants a 6pm curfew nationwide, on all males.
Theland - // The leader of the Green Party in the House of Lords, (can't Remember her name), wants a 6pm curfew nationwide, on all males. //

The lady in question advised that she 'might' raise the point in the House.

That means that she is either being flippant, which is in seriously bad taste, or she is being serious, in which case she is possibly unbalanced - neither option shows her in a good light.
Theland, she has already said she wasn't serious. She literally said it to make the point that when women are told to stay in by police, it's "normal" when men are told to, there's an uproar. She was just proving a point.
I see.

Then in my view, she is merely guilty of not understanding how, and more importantly where, irony is appropriate.

That's the kind of out-of-touch behaviour that gets the Upper House a bad name.
I don't think it was irony- she was showing the difference in attitudes, as she believed people would scoff at men having to stay in at risk of arrest, but nod wisely at women staying in at risk of murder. I think attitudes and awareness are important, so I can see why she did it.

On reflection, i can see that the lady has had her quote taken out of context, and then distorted in a way that gives it a meaning she neither intended, or that should have been attached to it, and I am happy to confess that I have been royally led down the proverbial garden path.

Thank you for your input, I am happy to stand corrected in my original viewpoint of the lady, and her statement.
Thank you... this is just what I have seen online today, so rightly or wrongly, she is saying her intentions were to make people think and cause discussion.
The video also raises the question of self defence.
A difficult one, but true that women are criminals if they carry a defensive weapon.
Just a talking point.
