I didn't, nor did I stand outside clapping for the NHS last year. I don't like the trend for public displays of emotion that seem to be the all the rage these days and the fact that if you don't join in then it must mean you don't care. For the record I think he did a fantastic job and he is an inspiration to everyone but I don't need to stand outside in public clapping to prove this to everyone.

already a thread dave
nobody would know you didn't join in if you hadn't started a thread to say so!
no i didn't.
NO
dave50 has encapsulated my sentiments exactly.
Mine too ^^^^^
I'm with you on that one, Dave.
I also agree with dave.

I cannot stand public outpourings, the worst of which was when Diana died. Yes it was tragic, yes she was the "people's Princess", but to see adults, hundreds of them, openly weeping was, frankly, pathetic.
Agree with dave and deskdiary.
Not to mention the ridiculous amount of money spent on flowers, much by people who could ill-afford them.

//..but to see adults, hundreds of them, openly weeping was, frankly, pathetic.?//

If people want to express their emotions in that way for someone - Why is it pathetic ?
many did - going on the news last night.
clap that is...
No point - he wouldn't hear me.
but his family must appreciate it.
Some have a heart like a swinging brick, others show feelings , I don't find that to be pathetic at all .
Last night I didn't go outside to clap for Sir Tom, it was throwing it down with rain but I did play his You'll never walk alone at 6pm and had a few moments reflecting what a lovely person he was who will be remembered for many things not just his fund raising attributes ,the twinkle in his old kind eyes, his directness when being interviewed but most of all, his overriding humility
well said Bobbs -
Great comment Bobbie.
it's interesting as someone said on the other thread re public outpourings and public displays - no-one seems to mind about the wearing of poppies (in fact they get quite arsey about NOT wearing them)
