Friends here begged their UK family not to continue with the planned Christmas get together. They did though and had a wonderful time.

Some are still very poorly in hospital and some recovering, thankfully, at home.

They now regret what they did and no, it wasn't worth it after all.
New Judge: "The plain fact is that it is impossible to prevent viruses spreading"

Vietnam(35 deaths) and Taiwan(7 deaths) [China?] did a good job in limiting spread.
sevenOP, yes, and even if a virus does spread, a functioning trace and test system seems to help in suppressing it.

However, we are where we are. Oh for a Taiwanese leader.
During the last year, I have lived as normally as possible.
Ive visited my mum (along with several other family members/carers etc). Ive continued to work, daily in the confines of a van with 'van-mates', and in a warehouse with dozens of others and have had to have contact with literally thousands of people around me via work. Ive shopped, gone for walks in parks and towns, had friends around etc.
And all with no ill effects on myself or others.

People have a xmas get together and everybody's ill?
How does that work??

Im not a Covid denier (I know someone who died of it)
But just dont get it?
Anecdotal 'evidence' is no evidence.
However, we are where we are. Oh for a Taiwanese leader.

Go live in Taiwan...hey presto, you have a Taiwanese leader.
Maybe Jno's finger slipped and she meant...Oh for a leader?
Oh trust Gness to know a family who celebrated Christmas together and are now ill - you couldn't make it up!! I had a fabulous Christmas celebrating with MY family and, how odd, we are all very well thank you, and yes, it was worth it!
Two anecdotal replies - there is no reason why both are not true (I know that one of them is).

I fail to see the need for sarcasm or scepticism - but them I'm a nice person ...
That's wonderful, Margie....so happy for you and yours. Mind you, it is an odd thing to do to show your selfishness and ignorance on a public site.....you may yet get bitten on the bum...x

Does that apply to my post @18:41 as well Gness?
Similar post regarding carrying on a normal life as possible.
If you can't see the wood, Nailit then yes. Don't know if anyone remembers Georgesgirl.....wonder why she left after displaying her selfishness too.
//Anecdotal 'evidence' is no evidence.//

How is nailit’s evidence “anecdotal”? He’s told us what he did and he’s told us the outcome of his behaviour. An isolated incident maybe, but there’s nothing anecdotal about it.

//Vietnam(35 deaths) and Taiwan(7 deaths) [China?] did a good job in limiting spread.//

If you lived under some of the measures that those countries took to (seemingly) suppress the virus, you may think it would have been better to take your chances here.
Nailit theres a reply to you from me on the bbc thread about your lucky not of had it yet but it doesn't change the fact that 90000 have been unlucky and numbers are rising by over 1000 a day. Could be you or me next. Will be 100000 by end of the month. Hopefully youll stay lucky. Take care
A friend of ours up the road from us, had a covid test about 10 days ago. Bear in mind she hasn't been out for nearly a year, apart from a few walks around the village with her husband in the summer time. Her test came back positive, she has no symptoms, accept a little more tired. Her husband was in hospital about 3 weeks ago with kidney infection. Came out 3 days later. He had covid test, and come back negative. We are all very surprised that my friend has it, especially when she hasn't been out for months!
NJ, I would be very happy to live in New Zealand at the moment. They underwent a lockdown, then came out of it, and have been living a normal life for months now. Occasional outbreaks (usually from people who've smuggled in the UK variant) are quickly tracked and dealt with. The rest of the country seem to be going to restaurants, sports or beaches just as they were a year ago.

I could have lived under that. In fact I have - but for most of a year rather than a couple of months, and with no end in sight.
Female leader perhaps, Jno... ;-)

Leaving one of those 3 countries aside - China - what other 'measures' did Taiwan and/or Vietnam take that you appear to find objectionable, New Judge ?
