What is the question?
02:48 Sun 10th Jan 2021
It won’t happen.

The Dems are half hearted and tired.
The Reps just want to wind the click down for 10 days.
It will all fizzle into nothing because of lack of enthusiasm.
Honestly Sunk, I think you might be underestimating the level of sheer outrage most of the senate are feeling towards Trump right now.

I gotta be honest, if I was in Mike Pence's shoes, with the way Trump treated him and the danger he was put in, I would've thrown the 25th amendment at him with all my might by now.
They should do it. From a political perspective, they've nothing to lose and it will help firm their base. They'll want to be seen to do it even if it comes to nothing.
Mike Pence is in a terrible position (echoes of Ford after Nixon). He's damned by the Right if he is seen to be objective/reasonable/bipartisan and damned by the Left as he's been supporting Trump for five years. As Ford said after Watergate: "Our long national nightmare is over". Well, this nightmare ain't over yet.
Off the top of my head I think Pelosi is 78, Trump is now 77 and Biden is 76. This is madness. Ludicrous that people of those ages can possibly be as cogent as when they were in their mid-forties.
Pelosi is 80, Trump is 74 and Biden is 78. Still a valid point, though.
Thanks, Jackdaw. It was a rough guess! It's mad to elect 78-year-olds, or, more to the point, for Parties to select candidates of that, or similar, ages. Kennedy, Nixon, Clinton, Bush II, and Obama all under 60. Doesn't make them better people but, it was to be hoped, they still had most of their marbles.
Reagan was 78 when he left office. He was showing signs of mild dementia in his latter years but didn't do anything stupid. Harold Wilson resigned as PM at the age of 60 as he recognised he was beginning to lose his memory and would be no match for the new Tory leader, Thatcher, who herself would go on to develop full-blown dementia as did Reagan and Wilson.
I believe Reagan was 77 at the time of leaving office, though it's not important. "Didn't do anything stupid" is a bit of a wild card, as we don't know if, or when, in office, he may have suffered onset dementia. Iran/Contra? There are no definitive dates of Harold Wilson's onset dementia and many biographies (and Marcia Wiliams and Mary Wilson) deny that failing faculties were the cause of his resignation,.
Fair comment. I confess to not having read up the subject in depth.
Jackdaw: The Pencourt File by Barrie Penrose and Roger Courtiour, Secker and Warburg, 1978, (try Amazon Books) is the definitive guide to the conspiracy theories surrounding Wilson, Thorpe and other politicos in the early Seventies. For a young journalist, as I then was, it was required reading.
What is the question?
You OK Tomus? Just replying to others' points. Hope that doesn't offend you in any way.
Tomus. There's a clue in the name; we answer questions as well as ask them.
Exactly, the clue is in the name. I'll contribute an answer when I've seen a question. The normal protocol is to offer a token question even if you're just bringing something to people's attention - eg Trump's going to be impeached, is that right wrong?
Tomus: You might need help.
The mistake you've made p..ian is that you think my original remark was aimed at you. Which means you might need help. It's not all about you.
as someone who is well over 60 with two older sisters I deeply resent the "young people have more marbles than old people" argument.....and I bet the Queen would too!

some interesting posts gemm'um
and leddies
I lost bearings and thought - god why can I start a thread with this type of thoughtful comment?

Rewagan was out of it by the end
Princess David,
Spitting Image cdnt sell the sketch where Reagan is ironing a bunch of bananas, then when the telephone rings, uses the bananas as a handset

not respectful to th President - the same dichotomy now

Wilson I dont think HAD insight when he resigned as he gave a speech saying everyone thought "over sixties were gaga". Soon after he was too ill to give any more speeches.
Didnt he last until he was 90?

if Painto was a young hourno
he can tell us why Wilson went....
or has he , and I have just missed it?

wilson spent a lot of time investigating his peers
BUT it was ten years after Philby so he may have had a point.

I mean it is an amazing feat innit - introudce a bit of KGB poison into MI6 [just a smidge, and a lot of hype] and then let the British system and establishment complete the job.
