Did anyone expect him to? He's shown contempt for the norms of the office throughout his presidency, so why should now be any different?
The man is a disgrace!
He'll probably be having his afternoon nap like all small children.
I wonder if it was "suggested to him"
Sore loser? Trump is certainly that, but I'll bet that he'll be a thorn in Joe Biden's side for a long time yet. Joe, don't stop looking over your shoulder.
The worry I have about thos is that he knows that his followers are going to go on another rampage, and wants to be anywhere else.

They've just said on the news that Nancy Pelosi has spoken to the chiefs of staff to limit Trump's access to the nuclear codes, just in case...
plan A wd have been to resign the day before
have Mike Pence succeed him who wd then pardon him

plan B - go to Turnberry

Didnt Clinton fortuitously be at Tyrnberry when there was a wedding where he wished the bride and groom all the best = = and then cdnt resist 'working' the room !
The big baby in a big sulk
the thing wrong with Nants's plan
is that the secty of Defense Espry is a Trump clone / familiar (*)

bjt they HAVE said apparently that anything impt should be signed AND countersigned - - - [by the presidents keeper in lunacy or someone]

At last: he tweets something truthful :-)
It’ll be the biggest golf course escape since the great Dennis Law on July 30 1966 ;-)
adams cdnt bear Jefferson 1802
and his son ( runs in the fambly obviously) J Quincy adams cdnt stand his successor ( may have been Burr)

and they had to specify thos presidents who were alive ( Lincoln Garland McKindley Kennedy)
-- answer removed --
I don't blame him for not going, he doesn't have to, does he ?
Burr was Jefferson's Vice President (and his successor in the role), but was never President himself. Jefferson couldn't stand Burr, and was ditched him as VP when he (TJ) won re-election.

I've seen Hamilton, I know stuff.
He may not *have* too...but if he had any respect for himself, the office he holds, the office he is supposed to be handing over...he'd be gracious and attend.
He doesn't have to but it is customary for an outgoing president to attend his successor's inauguration to show goodwill, unless, of course, the president has died in office.
yup jackdaw, propping the corpse up in a corner of the party is so infra dig
The last time a President didn't attend the inauguration of his successor (without having the excuse of dying in office or resigning mid-term) was 1869/1970. So it's a pretty long precedent to break.
In that link why does it say that he posted on twitter that he will not be attending? I thought his twitter account had been shut down.

Can anyone please explain?
