Given that new cases have now reached over 40k do you think this is a wise move?

I'm worried tbh, but if they do reopen I don't think I'll have a choice but to send son to school.

I'm more concerned about my elderly parents who I now live with.
I think it's a bad move, given that covid takes a while to show symptoms and by that time it's been brought home.
It is madness.

They will impose another Lockdown(3) in January, but it will be riddled with do many exemptions. I will cause maximum disruption for negligible result.
Repeat every month until summer.
Not a good idea at all. Most small children need taking to and from school. Often this falls onto older grandparents. This makes it difficult to do as we are being told which is to stay at home.
I agree with bedknobs.
Not everyone is going back on Jan 4.
Secondary schools are staggered

I think primary schools reopen on 4th. I'm not looking forward to the school runs and also I received some notifications from the school regarding children that had caught it before the end of term.
Michael Gove on Breakfast TV said that it would be Year 11 and 13 gong back(preparing for exams) and Children of essential workers that were going back.
And primary
Disaster and undoing the good others are doing. Had I a child of school age I’d not be sending him/her to school. Discussing this today I was pleased that my family and most friends will be keeping their children at home. Yes it’s difficult for those working but that is not a reason to contribute to the spread of the new variant of this virus.
With so many schools closing early because of Covid, I see no sense in reopening them again especially in Tiers 3 and 4.

We do have a child of school age and I’m hoping we won’t have yet more disruption.
If we do we do but I hope we don’t
Kids have lost so much of their education, maybe adding the year ( of however long they're off for) on the end of their school time, obviously that would have to be passed in Parliament

I'm in South London, T4 area and it's stressing me out already even though there is a week to go.
I don't think it's a wise move... either we are attempting a lockdown, or we aren't. I wouldn't blame anyone not wanting to send their children back to school, but I believe you can still get fined if you don't.
The education of our children has been dicked about with enough, so it is entirely unfair on the children, and on the parents, for it to be messed about with any further.
Tiggs. I’ve been watching your news. You have a choice. Keep little Tiggs at home..... x
Not a good move at all.
So what are the children (particularly the older ones) going to do, then, if they are not sent to school? For a clue, consider what they were doing before the Christmas break, as soon as the schools chucked out.

Unless you are going to keep children indoors then sending them to school is probably the least unsafe option. They would be controlled all day. The problems, of course, begin when they are released. Instead of going straight home they fanny about in High Streets, supermarkets and shopping centres. You won't stop them doing that so you might as well cut down the number of hours they have available to do it.
Pure folly.
You can’t have the draconian measure we’ve been(and will continue to be) under yet allow a whole demographic of the population to mingle like sheep, it’s utter madness.
That mindset gives others the idea that they have carte blanche to do as they wish and ignore the rules.
