This seems a strange arrangement to me - whereby the president can pardon anyone of their choosing.

If the Prime minister of the UK had such a power, I’m pretty sure the whole country would be up in arms at fellow crooks being pardoned, especially those engaged in criminal activity in support of the Prime minister. Do our American cousins have no shame in the political power of the president allowing abuse this way?

Many of them don't.
What did people say when you asked 4 years ago?
It’s traditional for the president to pardon people in jail who’ve written to him
// What did people say when you asked 4 years ago? //

It wasn't an issue 4 years ago because the president didn't go on a spree of pardoning obviously criminal cronies left right and centre.

It's like alot of things this election has highlighted. The systems depend on people doing the right thing and having some kind of moral compass, and being basically sane. When you get someone in place that doesn't tick any of those boxes, surrounded by alot of self serving sycophants and enablers, it starts to look very shaky.
Only in America.

Crazy place.
Trump refusing to sign off the Covid package is perhaps the most insane thing yet.
Has he still got access to the nuclear button?
He wants people to get $2,000 instead of $600. Must be mad, eh?
Tell me what your establishment rags have to say about ^that, geniuses.
"The most powerful congressional Democrat, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, usually a fierce antagonist of the president, said she agreed with Mr Trump's call for $2,000 one-off stimulus payments for every American.

"Let's do it!" she tweeted, pledging that her party would bring the proposal to the floor this week.

Such a plan would need to be passed by the Republican-controlled Senate, where it may well face resistance."

He's still got a few more weeks to throw the toys out the pram, and there's still a lot more to be thrown.
Orange man bad. No matter what he does.

He is going - move on.
If Epstein had waited instead of 'taking the cowards way out' he might have found himself on Trump's little list.
/// He is going - move on.///

Isn't it odd how the extreme right keep asking us to move on from their actions of a few days/weeks ago, yet they keep harping back years to smear the Labour Party. Heal yourselves Physicians.
She would say that,,,,,,now.
// He is going - move on. //

I'll move on when he actually goes YMB. Until then there's entertainment still to be had - which by the way is another thing the Americans need to look at - the ridiculously long handover period where they still have a sociopathic numpty in charge, capable of doing all sorts of damage if he wants to.
You people speak absolute botox. One day it'll dawn on you. You're on the wrong side.
Meanwhile no one gets anything.
This was agreed by Congress while Trump was pursuing futile law suits and fuming about electoral fraud.
The Democrats unanimously support the extra and BBCafe urging him to sign it off. What it has done, apart from holding up the federal budget (surely not his real aim oh no), is severely embarrass his own party and Georgia’s Republican senate candidates.
Go Donald!
some leaders promote their chums to the House of Lords, some get theirs out of jail. Both actions are corrupt, if you ask me.
It was held up for months for purely political reasons by Pelosi.
Don't you know anything about the subjects you keep pontificating on?
You need to de-program yourself Spicey, seriously. It's not even about sides. You don't have to be a leftie to despise Trump. I personally couldn't care less if there is a Republican or Democrat president.
Can't you see that Trump couldn't care less about the Republicans either?
