I`m going to a carol service tonight. It's OK to spend an hour with 50 odd total strangers indoors but those people can't spend the a day 4 days later with their families.
Carol service here, is being done over 2 evenings, 3 slots, outside in different locations round the village. Should be enough to keep the groups small, with room to socially distance.
No even in tier four with social distancing, churches can open.
My neighbours are off to a carol concert today,at the Salvation Army. It's a drive in, they are taking a flask and a small picnic.
they should go round, door to door, like in the old days (only not standing too close to each other)
Sally Army did that here last weekend, I mentioned it on here - it was lovely to look out of the window and see the lights sparkling on the brass, such a beautiful sound too.
The average church should be able to cope with decent spacing of family groups, music by choir/ organ no communal hymn singing, and most churches are pretty well ventilated.
Our village church is open, every other pew closed, sanitiser machine operated by a foot pedal at the door, organ playing but no singing, & masks to be worn by all.

We will miss the Christmas Day service, for the first time in decades, but watch the excellent online service instead.

Christmas has certainly not been cancelled here. It just depends on what each individual expects of Christmas.
We didn't have any singing at our service tonight because it was indoors. They do have an amazing choir though so there was no need. I did smile when I saw the vicar standing with the collection box which was a credit card tap machine.
