Are they? I'm not sure, we have a Thatcher Close here and the estate was built in the 70s so I doubt it would have been named after those men who thatched roofs??

we have many streets named after famous people, most long dead.

it has sizeable Bengali community, but its a sop to them and seems to forget the many thousands of non Bengali people who inhabit the place.
The OED defines it as ‘originally: well-informed, up-to-date. Now chiefly: alert to racial or social discrimination and injustice’, while Urban defines it as ‘being woke means being aware… knowing what’s going on in the community (related to racism and social injustice)’. Like most street ***, ‘woke’ can trace its roots back hundreds of years.

Been watching the debate on JV about it, someone suggested streets there should be named Duran- Duran avenue etc, coz they lived there haha, what next Noddy ( Holder) street ?
