This county needs a massive overhaul of its welfare system and legal aid. Human Rights' Lawyers are making a killing from stopping the deportation of serious criminals. All courtesy of legal aid. This country needs to get rid of all the dead wood.

I suppose I also dislike statements that clearly aren't based on any meaningful concrete assessment, or could be put in a slightly less jingoistic way. I don't agree that pride in my country need come at the expense of devaluing others.
Bobbisox1. I too love my country. That’s why it hurts so much to see what we have allowed to happen here.
Who to blame? Politicians? Ourselves? The general malaise, and the I’m alright jack attitude has not helped.
We could and should try to do better. Will we? Or will it be too much effort and inconvenience?
we are ruled by laws many of which are outdated, NJ had it right if you read his posts.
We all love our country, Bobbi. I certainly do or i wouldn't have served just short of 7 years in my country's uniform. Doesn't mean i have to ignore it's shortcomings - and there are plenty of those. As has already been discussed on these very pages today, we can't even get rid of low-life scum when we want to.

Not sure how we'd begin David , I must concede however we are a 'greedy ' and somewhat a work shy one but that's for a different thread altogether
no we can't, that should be addressed as a matter of course, but sure that's not going to happen any day soon

There's lots to change Ken and the judiciary is one
apart from the disaster that's been covid19 i thought we had good figures for employment - that will change obviously as businesses go under.
Alas, Bobbi, it is as Emmie says, "not going to happen any day soon."

So we make the best if it and like what we have, well I do :0)
tied hand and foot to many archaic laws, needs a good shake up.
Ask some of the staff who work in the hotels etc in holiday spots abroad . I can assure you we are not the flavour of the month. The Brits Abroad think they are so important and every one should bow down to them, and thats what turns foreigners against us.We have pushed the Germans way down the the arrogance ladder.
so we grab a few more sun loungers than the Germans, not before time i say.. lol
Was we the best in keeping stocks of PPE in governments central stores, even after being warned what we would need, 4 years before hand should there be a pandemic. Naaaa All out of date and left to rot.
Gavin Williamson? Talking about Wales, surely.

Remember when you were small, there was always one kid who would come round and behave really badly, in a way he would never dream of behaving at home, but felt it was OK because it was someone else's house, so it didn't matter?

That kid grew up - physically at least - and now he behaves in exactly the same way in other people's countries, for exactly the same reasons.
Spicerack - // Gavin Williamson? Talking about Wales, surely. //

As a member of, and speaking on behalf of the British government, I very much doubt it.
teacake, I saw a figure (might have been in Private Eye) that the £12bn they spent on PPE would only have been £2bn last year (even though they'd done an exercise to find out what the country would need in a pandemic).

They've done everything too late, so it's heartening that they've pulled their fingers out at last with the vaccine. But that wasn't done by politicians.
