The Chairman of the FA has resigned after making two bad comments
He referred to coloured players as black?
And said being Gay was a lifestyle choice
What has he done to create the anti race lobby to go into meltdown by saying it was racist calling a coloured player Black when the coloured people themselves created BLACK LIVES MATTER
On the second remark, I agree he's bang out of order to suggest being Gay is a lifestyle choice, it isn't !!!
Other way round. He used the term coloured instead of black (or he should of said peopel of colour which is okay. A bet we've all done it out of old habits.
Also he commented that there are more Asians than blacks doing some IT jobs at the FA, he said "If you go to the IT department of the FA, there's a lot more South Asians than there are Afro-Caribbeans. They have different career interests."
Sound's okay to many am sure but its seen as stereotyping by critic's
Surely he referred to black players as "coloured", rather than the other way round, which (as has been discussed here on AB loads of times) is seen as both racist and grossly offensive (and which, incidentally, you appear to be doing in your own post). It's akin to referring to a person of mixed race as 'half caste'. It's simply unacceptable in today's society.
At Uni I had a colleague who was half Scottish and half Jamaican. Nobody seemed to be quite sure of how he would like to be described. To me he was just Richard, but when asked how he described himself he said emphatically "I'm Black"
I thought he said coloured
and then screwed it by saying that was a term required by law in certain countries
[like south sfrica under apartheid - oops !]
the Brits like british afro-caribbean ( if they are that is!)
( because they dont draw guns and shoot everyone like they do in Kingston Jamaica)
at least he didnt say - day forrin day are - just arrived off a dinghy from France .....
>>> I really don't see this as such a massive big deal
It could be enough to get you sacked from many jobs. When I was employed by Sheffield City Council, as a teacher back in the 1980s, we were constantly being reminded that the use of the word 'coloured', to refer to a person's race, skin colour or ethnicity, was considered a serious disciplinary offence which might well lead to dismissal.
He also criticised female footballers. He basically blighted every footballing minority equally. Is he racist/sexist/homophobic? Probably not, but as head of something as diverse as the FA, he should've been more careful about what he said.
Mozz I'm not saying he shouldn't have resigned, yes he should of nor am I wanting to come across as a racist, I was basically asking a genuine question
// (as has been discussed here on AB loads of times)//
o god it is like the daily brexit question
wiv no one saying anyfing different and the usual suspects professing that coloured or aryan isnt insulting or politically loaded
.....strongly professing ...... loudly insisting.... screaming even
you ask them what they want to be called TTT ( which of course you really always knew again)
and no, 'forrin!' isnt an acceptable catch all
and no - - "well the Duke of edinburgh said it" isnt acceptable either
Bobbs, I wasn't suggesting otherwise, and sorry if that was how it sounded, or I meant was that he should've known better. It was a daft mistake to have made.
