BBC journalists are refusing to follow the new guidelines on the need for impartiality claiming that they are unnecessary, despite the fact that last year the Beeb spent £153,000 on Guardian newspapers to distribute to its staff, will the wake-up call ever come?

For balance how much did it spend on other newspapers in the year you are talking about..?

The Guardian is sometimes top of the list but sometimes it's The Times.
The last line in the article reads; "But if you must, the BBC bought more copies of The Times than any other paper." Guess you didn't read that bit, Khandro.
And where does Lineker come into it. He's not even mentioned?
OP looks a bit biased himself!
BBC journalists are refusing to follow the new guidelines on the need for impartiality

always lovely to see the Express as a source of accuracy. What the story actually says is that one contributor to Gardeners Question Time says he won't be.
// "But if you must, the BBC bought more copies of The Times than any other paper." Guess you didn't read that bit, Khandro.//

BBC journalists are refusing to follow the new guidelines on the need for impartiality claiming that they are unnecessary,

well if they are unnecessary they have to be following them already ( or else they are necessary see? (*)) and so they should just say yeah we are. Guess you didn't get that bit, Khandro.//

(*) simple arugment reductio ad absurdum
the absurdi on AB must recognise that one - hur hur hur
//A spokesman for the BBC said: "Counting newspaper purchase figures is a daft way of judging anything"//

Can't argue with that. Seems like the OP (and the Express) was digging for something sensational, and just got the usual bow locks.
god this thread reads like a usual product where every other post has been deleted
rendering the thread of argument(*) unidentifiable

(*) if there be one that is!

Fair cop, I'm definitely biased against the BBC, but The Times isn't exactly an antidote to The Guardian. During the Brexit referendum The Times was pro-remain, but after the referendum they were backing Theresa May’s exit deal.
You don’t seriously think that newspapers are purchased by the BBC to influence the staff?!
That’s potty
For what it’s worth a friend of mine supported Brexit but reads the Guardian ...
No newspaper is unbiased.
By that criterion you’d not have any newspapers at the BBC
ich //No newspaper is unbiased.//
But some are more blatantly biased than the others.
what ! you mean the 30% of Abers whom we know buy and enjoy reading the beano ( or look at the piccies ) shouldnt be allowed to vote?

but Bunty readers if they are gurlz - can
erm didnt we learn in CSE english
( sort of last year or whenever you were judged to be able to complete the paper)
that newspapers were allowed to have political views ( the daily star and workers daily being left wing etc-
and television stations had to be less political ?

no? you missed that because you were behind the bike sheds
Seems to be a confession that they know they are biased and refuse to hide it. After all, if they weren't they'd already be conforming, surely. Nor would they be denying the validity of the expression "virtue signalling" in the hope of avoiding having it pointed out.
You'll soon see a BBC bias now an ex-Tory MP has taken over.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the BBC probably seems “biased” to some for the simple that it’s more balanced than the tabloid press, which largely panders to a target readership. If you’re used to being pandered to in that way, anything else is going to seem like bias.
yup, Tim Davie, former Tory party candidate, takes over at the Beeb. That should make up for the tragic loss of the political editor who was a former chairman of the Young Conservatives.

BBC biased? I don't believe it!

jno: //BBC biased? I don't believe it!// (I know it's irony btw)

Go tell that to Andrew Neil, he couldn't take it anymore & in response to BBC & Sky bias he is to be chairman & help found the new GB News channel starting early in the new year, which will be like him, - fair, but leaning slightly to the right, & boy does GB need that!
//fair, but leaning slightly to the right, & boy does GB need that!//

So you denounce the BBC for what you consider a left bias, but support a new channel with a right bias?

^Andy, Andy, Andy!
