Labour MP David Lammy, who is of Guyanese descent, said at the time: "The world does not need any more white saviours."

christ almighty, what a complete wazzock.
much money is sent to these countries and one wonders if much is used appropriately, big contributors may well pull out. I wouldn't blame them if they did.
I've no objection to the cessation of inflicting celebs on the poor Africans, but I don't understand why the racist excuse is used to justify it.
Dear, dear Lenny, the importance of being earnest.

Will there be an exception made for messrs Geldof and Ure in all of this?
why don't more black actors, musicians, theatre folk play a part in alleviating suffering in these countries, is it that many don't have a clue what happens or that they simply don't care.

Why do they need to go to Africa to cuddle and comfort starving children? We are assured that there are millions of them in the UK. Think of the photo opportunities to be had without any travel, and the resulting glow bull carbon droppings, right here in poverty stricken Britain. ... How do you wear a mask and a big red nose?
but keep on sending the money

biting the hand that feeds you - a bit like a teenager really
but do we need to learn that?
Let's face it, they can't do right for doing wrong.

Criticism however they pitch their appeals, year on year.

// Watch the money drop. //

I will.

It will be very bad that more African children will die this year, because our donations are less.

Lenny Henry thinks that it is a good idea that whites are not out there trawling for victims and playing saviour of the known universe ... so blame him. My donations could hardly get less anyway since the luvvies highjacked the cause as a showcase for themselves.
Togo,

Se what you did there. Blamed the luvvies, and then singled out the black one. Well done, you are on form today.

Please don't put my name to quotes I haven't made.
Mozz,

The quote is in the OP, so hopefully readers will know it was from webbo, and not you.

But if they didn’t, now they do.

Less starving African children on our screens, less British charity going abroad, less unfunny lefties spoiling our Friday night entertainment. Everyone’s a winner.

I watch Comic Relief because it's supposed to be funny. During the serious bits I then get persuaded into giving money. I think a white celeb is just as capable of levering the cash out of my pocket as a black one - and that's the point of the show, getting me to give money. Generally, if you are white and see a white person there, it's easier to picture yourself there, and you're more likely to give, or give more. Need I say I think they're making a mistake in not using white people to ask white people for money ... and the whole point of a celeb is that it's someone you "know" that's asking you.
"The world does not need any more white saviours." - great lets end comic relief then. I just have.
