Nailit; he won the prize. Would you feel happy if they decided that the prize you just won didn't fit in with your beliefs?
He'd received alcohol before as a gift, respect or not they should not have taken his choice away.

It's apparent there were other issues too and very disappointing it came to this and wasn't sorted out better.
Atheist, If I won a prize and it was against my beliefs to recieve it AND they substituted it, Id like to think that I'd be grateful for their thoughtfulness.

Cant disagree with that Mamy
What's the betting he would have sued them if they had given him the alcohol?
Did he sue them when he got the Tattinger?

They wouldn`t have given him the alcohol. They would have offered him the alcohol.

and just to add, dont hire women of birthing age, again costs money.
Fender, that says it all. "Don't hire a Muslim." And you don't feel embarrassed at saying that?
well as a female I'd be peeved if I had won silver cufflinks and they were swapped out for a cheapo brooch..... Why on earth did they not just say to the bloke "look you won the brandy, would you rather have a different prize?"
Joy to the World Fender, wouldn't work for you if you paid me in gold.
'Employment judge Street concluded: 'A nut allergy is an illness, a life-threatening illness. It is not an acceptable point of comparison. It minimises the importance of Mr Kioua's beliefs and practices.

'The point is not that [the swap] was well-intentioned. The point is that it should not have been said, just as the decision should not have been made to change Mr Kioua's prize.

'Both are on the grounds of his religion and neither should have happened; both are offensive and caused him distress.'

This is the law in this country.

I believe that the usual response on here is that if you don't like or want to abide by our laws you should go back to < < insert vague ancestral hellhole of choice > >

So yeah. Do that.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. That would have been the practical thing to do, but my reading of the article is that they were trying to respect his beliefs and got sued for doing so.
They should of given him the choice, yes. but it looks to me asif they tried to not offend him by offering alcohol as maybe they din't known hed won champagne previous so they were trying to be helpful. Hes was an overreaction though IMO and am sure we can all think off time's when something din't go quite right for us but we just get onwith it, dont sweat the small stuff, its not asif it was a big loss
^and that is where they were wrong. They pre judged his beliefs.
