41,902 deaths so far. Most are infirm and aged, some probably well off. That’s a lot of death duties which Boris will be glad to receive. Sorry to be so frank but that’s how it looks to me!.

and think of the savings on pensions.
Death duties went out with the Ark. You mean Inheritance Tax.
Oh dear Lord! Whatever next??!

I stand corrected Jackdaw, I wondered if anyone would spot that one.
They're all out there Ummmm and most pop in here now and then too.
You've sussed it...get in touch with the Guardian asap.
I didn't know that UK deaths are 41,902. Canadian deaths are 9,242. I realize that your population is about twice ours; however, the ratio, if that's the right term, seems way off.
Canada is about 40 x bigger... so I would have expected much more difference.
Size isn't everything.
You really can't bring population density per square mile into this, as most of the population is congregated in about a 50 mile wide area running along the Canada-US border including large cities and towns. I'm not saying we are doing anything better that you in the UK, I'm just expressing my surprise at the disparity.
That reminds me.
If I go missing for say six weeks, then the Covid monster got me, and you can give my worldly goods to the mods.
(Even my beer mats!)
^Tempting fate there, Theland.
Some might say this thread is a tad insensitive.

1. our legal beagle says covid doesnt exist or if it does, it doesnt matter. It hasnt been killing anyone and if it has, it still doesnt matter. --- - - - Ha!
2. Death duties came in around 1894 altho there were still taxes on death before. It went out 1970s. Ha ! Ha!
3. We have IHT - instead
4. In 2015-16 (the latest year for which information is available), 24,500 estates were liable to inheritance tax – around 4.2 per cent of total UK deaths. Ha HA ha

so in conclusion no it doesnt look like it - we tax analysts say the tax base is small ( no of people paying it)

altho his tax take from IHT has gone up by ten over the last ten years - one billion to ten billion - figures a guess

and so your argument would only work if Covid was killing only the rich
it isnt
Hmmm any savings will surely be outweighed by the cost of covid. For eg paying out furloughs, building nightingale hospitals, etc

No he doesn't.
Remember tho eve- are NHS must be saving alot of money on the hundereds of doctors and nurses who died from Corona this Spring. Plus all those carehome staff. And if are PM had died when he was on the ventilater that would have saved a bit too, it all adds up.
Good question by bravehaeart really. Makes you think whether we should even bother treating the infirm and aged or just leave them in a warehouse when they get Corona .
what a ridiculous post, the government has been slaughtering the economy to cut the death rate. If the idea was to kill off the old and pick up death duty then they'd have done nothing.

When will you pack it in, Peter? Just about the only lucid comments you make are your continual misrepresentations of my views on Covid. It's very boring.
judge, I don't even read his LD drivel, just skip.

I don't believe the PM was on a ventilator.
