Let's hope so, Boris has asked him to reconsider the question of free TV licences to the over seventies.
> Land Of Hope And Gory

Oops.
Very good.

D'oh! Yes touch of For Funks Sake - 'Glory' of course, unfortunately there is not edit facility. It's most annoying as more often than not you see it just as it is sitting there submitting!
Danny, many don't need free licenses. Surely it would be better to go by income?
While I am glad to see this... it's interesting to see there is no real difference between "mob rule" and "democracy" just depending if you approve of the result:-)

D'oh, For Funks Sake was actually an abbreviation for Fat Finger Syndorme.

It would cost more than it would save - its the same problem with the Winter allowance.

Eh?
Pixie,//Surely it would be better to go by income?//
Probably, but not as it stands at present with it being based on receipt of Pension Credit.
Ymb, it seems to be fairly easy to determine who are entitled to which benefits, usually.
You may have missed a few threads, where popularity was dismissed as "mob rule"... look at some of the statue ones. Now it is fair and democracy. Just amusing, that's all.
I don't know what the rules for pension credit are, danny. Any ideas?
// How savings affect Pension Credit. There is no upper capital limit for Pension Credit but you may receive a reduced amount if you have more than £10,000 of capital. For every £500 or part of £500 of capital over £10,000, you'll be treated as having an income of £1 a week.//

Ok, that does seem over generous, but will still rule out the very rich.
State Pension is classed as income so that has to be added to the income from savings. Income is then deducted from the entitlement.
Pixie, I wouldn't call it over generous:-
£13.97 extra per week if you're single
or £15.62 if you're a couple.
There isn't a set amount per week of Pension Credit it is a sliding scale depending on Income and other circumstances such as disabilities etc.

Hence even a very low award can be the gateway to other things - such as the TV Licence.
I don't mean the pension is over generous, danny.... I mean you can have £10k in savings and still get a free license. Someone somewhere has to pay for free money... so I'm not sure why people with savings wouldn't be able to afford a license, if they want it?
... licence
£157.50 is a lot to find especially if you don't watch BBC.If they don't want to give free licences then they could at least reduce the cost.
Brilliant, that's very good news.
Well, I agree, Danny. I have stopped paying, as I stopped watching live TV a long time ago. They have too much competition now, to continue much longer as it is.
It was the government who stopped paying the over 75 licence NOT the BBC.
No one should forget that.
