And not before bleedin' time! With their solid majority now's the time to get stuck in and drain the swamp.
We can draft our own human rights legislation based on decency and common sense.
Ah yes, human rights legislation: always someone else's human rights until we have need of it ...
It's not abandoning we need to do; as Theland says, we need to draft our own and ensure it only covers genuine "human rights" not define a load of spurious "rights" unworthy of being called "human rights".
But that is what I mean: "genuine" human rights?
Are those rights for genuine humans, or genuine rights for humans?
"Removing the right to claim asylum from some migrants would mean re-writing the Human Rights Act, but Sir John said ministers must not shy away from this."

If they are from France then they very unlikely to be asylum seekers, for France doesn't tend to give cause for folk in their country to seek asylum elsewhere. They will almost certainly be economic migrants hoping to illegally enter the UK.
You are concerned a non-human species will try to claim "human rights" ?
Never gonna happen, unfortunately.
Tories don’t want us to have human rights.
No surprise there.
As far as asyluim seeking is concerned I'm absolutely convinved that removing the right to seek asylum would make not the slightest difference to that particular problem. In fact, it might well make it worse.
The problem with that is the government is very bad at processing/removing failed applications. You'd just have even more people with failed/non-applications.
Good idea. We don't have human rights laws we have criminal lowlife scum rights laws. What we currently have is a criminals and lawyers charter, designed to earn Mrs Blair a fortune.
theland: "We can draft our own human rights legislation based on decency and common sense" - bang on!
gromit: "Tories don’t want us to have human rights.
No surprise there. " - yep good ole anti British gromit deliberately misses the point once more. We ain't abandoning human rights just the Yooman rights act from your Mate St Tony and the WWW me old china, geddit?
//Gromit: Tories don’t want us to have human rights.
No surprise there.//

Don't be ridiculous!
And well said Theland.
we have had five years or so
of dear TTT saying "foo! brexit from the EUSSR and we wont have to take the immigrants"

and now it is Foo Brexit PLUS the the Human Rights Law ?

now wishing to give anything away ....
BUT we would have to abandon the Human Rights treaty of 1952

yeah well den - Brexit and Human Rights law and the Treaty on Human RIghts

( as wivva lot of TTT- sortta reminds you of MOney Python (what have the romans done for us)
// /Gromit: Tories don’t want us to have human rights.
No surprise there. Don't be ridiculous!//

well the facts bear out something else

David Cameron had planned the great big British Liberties Law. remember that? Human RIghts out and Great Big British Liberties Law instead !
which wd have LESS liberties than the Human RIghts.

Otherwise you dont repeal a law and replace it
you amend it

and so those who say
/Gromit: Tories don’t want us to have human rights.
No surprise there.// - - - - - may have a point

Don't be ridiculous! - - we arent being ridiculous
So I say once again, don't be ridiculous , but to PP this time. A usual the Daily Mail has chosen to display a misleading heading that indicates abandoning human rights. You are just being a Pedant, Peter!
Thank goodness for PPedant, whom god preserve and vice versa.

Without him, TTT would reign free, following the Daily Idiot wherever it led.

Wouldn’t the Conservative MPs be better stating what we will have to replace Human Rights laws? Then we could debate the merits of something else.

The fact they have made no mention of a replacement makes me suspect there isn’t one. They want to take away our rights, and leave us with nothing.
