Zacs - // 16:50, Andy. Do you need a lie down? //

No thanks, I'd rather point out the inaccuracies of your argument where you start moaning because your OP is 'misunderstood', and then try to wriggle out of it by saying that you referred to an 'experiment' further on in the thread.

Face it, this was a weirdly imagined and rather unpleasant link that you created, it hasn't generated the 'discussion' you imagined it would, and now you are getting sniffy because your inability to express yourself clearly enough has been called out.

I'd quit while I'm behind if I were you.

How can a question be misunderstood? I’ve already said that if people don’t make the connection that’s perfectly fine with me.

If your pointing Out inaccuracies, AH, you’d better make sure you haven’t missed anything like the inverted commas at 16:50. Or you might look a bit daft by saying they’re invisible.
Zacs - // How can a question be misunderstood? //

On the evidence of this thread - with absolutely no difficulty at all.
Question Author
Yes, especially by those who don’t actually spot it is one!
OK Zacs, we've to-and-fro'd to the limit on this, I'm sure you'll agree.

Let's you and I step back, and see if any discussion does actually emerge, and go from there.

Whaddya say?
Question Author
I wish you’d never joined in to be honest. All you’ve done is confuse the issue by a) not spotting it was a question and b)completely missing my inverted comas which has led to the normal unnecessary bickering on just about every post you comment on, stifling any meaningful debate.

Don't mention the war.
Zacs, unfortunately for you, we don't have a say in who joins any thread, or, subject to Site Rules, what they say.

You have made your feelings known, why don't we step back and see if your desired discussion is actually forthcoming, which I doubt, but let's see shall we ....
Although the experiment appears outlandish at first reading I shall be interested in the outcome.
Mamya, the thrust of my exchange with Zac is that he has used the emotive adjective 'experiment ' in order to facilitate a dubious Mengele connection which I believe to exist only in his imagination.

The link does not refer to an 'experiment', and given that the piece is about testing on humans, the word 'experiment ' has obvious unpleasant connotations.

I think the absence of the word 'experiment' was entirely deliberate for exactly that reason.

It means that the only link will be if someone uses the term 'experiment' and the name Mengele, and makes a link which the scientists and media have avoided for obvious reasons.
Is this thread somehow a spin-off from the one regarding ludicrous interpretations of the words displayed on a drinking-mug?
Part of a more than occassional series of bloody-mindedness and ego reinforcement, sanmac.

Stick around to see who gets the last word.
You're not the only one thinking that sanmac. Sigh.
The one who gets the last word is the person who posts just prior to the resident ah closing the thread.
Andy, thank you for your hyper analysis - I have been reading about this for some time and 'experiment' has often been used in articles about it.

My reply stands, I will be interested in the outcome.
Just like the Matilda mugs thread, this one has been seriously derailed and hijacked by the usual suspect who is far more interested in pedantic nit-picking about presentation than the actual substance. Lord preserve us from such pompous self-righteousness.
sanmac - // Is this thread somehow a spin-off from the one regarding ludicrous interpretations of the words displayed on a drinking-mug? //

I can't see even a remote connection personally, but if you think so ...
Ah douglas - // Part of a more than occassional series of bloody-mindedness and ego reinforcement, sanmac.

I hoped you might join in with something connected to the debate, but no, as usual you jump in to have a pop at me personally which is both off-thread, and tedious.

I have said before - but you don't remember what you don't like - I know you don't like me, and you know I don't care, so you don't need to keep jumping in after me on every thread to have a go.

No-one cares what you think about me, so why not just let it go - you might feel better.
sanmac - // The one who gets the last word is the person who posts just prior to the resident ah closing the thread. //

An interesting assumption on your part, with no proof, but never mind.

But just so you know, and it will save any of you repeating it again -

some of my fellow Mods close threads when they feel that the thread has runout of steam, and that is their right, and I would never criticise them for it.

But for the record, it is not my approach, and never has been.

The number of threads I have closed for that reason, involved in or not, is precisely zero, and while we are on the subject - of your pointless nitpicking derailing gets this one closed as well, it will be by someone else other than me.
