Apparently there is to be an announcement at 4 o’clock concerning how this fiasco is to be sorted.

Will they follow what those north of Hadrian's wall have adopted
I suspect England will fall into line with the others and just give everyone their predicted grades.
I'm not sure it'll help students in the long run to have inflated grades in the long run- those going to university will either succeed or fail based on their suitability for the course and their effort and abilities, and those who didn't deserve the grade will be found out.
For GCSE students going to sixth form the same principle applies.
It's a sort of pyrric victory for the 'downgraded' students but may upset those who weren't downgraded as weaker students will now have the same grade as them.
I think it's also highlighted the problem of trying to predict grades and maybe for the future grades will have to be predicted as a range- say B/C
It may mess up the university entry system though as more students will have meet the offer grades when the universities might have assumed a proportion of maybe 10% wouldn't- so courses may be oversubscribed
The clearing houses / Uni's must be going insane. People will be wanting to transfer to better Uni's with better grades & people will already have booked accommodation. What an absolute farce.
And it is not just the advanced schooling FF. Employers will take this years certificates with a pinch of salt. Be fine for those that go on and get a degree but those stopping at A level or dropping out/failing a degree will have a piece of paper that is valueless.

Williamson must go after this. He has failed in so many things over the years.

Add him to the list currently:
HandCock
Williamson
Patel
Johnson.
Who's left in the Tory Government, at the rate ymb wants them gone?!

Not sure why I used the term Pyrrhic victory- I think I meant hollow victory.

YMB - his name is Hancock.
A-level and GCSE students in England will have their results based on teacher assessments after U-turn

Just been confirmed England will use teacher's predicted grades
"We have every confidence in the system we've put in place, it's a robust system, a system that's fair for pupils..."

Welp, so much for that confidence.
What happens to those who had their grades upgraded?
Students who have been overgraded will go to university, fail or drop out because the courses are beyond them, and end up with debt and no degree.

Or they will go out into the wide world and find an economy in recession and employers not willing to believe their grades.

Probably the best they can hope for is that they pass their degree and hit the job market in three or four years, saddled with debt and newly minted Third in hand ...
"Who's left in the Tory Government, at the rate ymb wants them gone?!"

There are 354 Tory MP's. One would hope that in that number there must be some who at least have some competence.

Do you not agree with me then jim? Although I am a Tory I am quite happy to point out if I see a fault in the Party. How can it get better if people like me dont (And I dont just write it here either).
Who knows TCL. What a mess.
I don't disagree, I just find it incredibly frustrating that we're stuck with this incompetence for another 4 years.
had to happen. As someone wrote in the paper today, all these kids are going to be voting in the next election. The government won't have forgotten what happened to Clegg once he faffed about with eucation.
You are not the only one jim, I know a few other long term Tory voters that are not happy with Johnson, Hancock, Williamson and Patel. All are failing miserably and what does Johnson do? *** off on holiday. Arrogance or incompetence, either way he needs removing.
Do you think reversing the decision is going to make them vote the other way? It's a monumental cock-up.

It bothers me that our Government is simply struggling to lead. It developed a system, or had a system developed, that was certain to be attacked once it threw up those anomalies. Did nobody raise concerns? Or, if they did, why were they ignored? It beggars belief, in particular, that the English system has followed literally the same trajectory as in the Scottish system, despite having the advantage of knowing how things went down north of the border.
What a farce. Anyone who knows anything about education/exams/grades will realise that the grades from 2020 are utterly meaningless.
I think it is too late jno, the damage has been done.

Although I am not so certain many of those will be voting Tory anyway. Most people have to be out in the workplace away from left wing influence and paying tax before turning Tory. I was one of them.
