Reports in some papers of people missing the 4am deadline by a couple of hours.

There’s one person in a couple who made the deadline, but for some reason the other didn’t, so one has to quarantine and one doesn’t.

There’s also a report of a woman missing the deadline because her TGV was delayed resulting in her missing her Eurostar train.

If you missed the deadline by such a small margin, would you quarantine?

If you are not allowed to work from home then surely Statutory Sick Pay should apply.
If you're not sick, there's no entitlement to SSP. Employers can pay it still if they want to but they're not obliged to.
My employer and my husband employer has said if you take the chance to go abroad and then have to quarantine them that is 2 weeks leave if you have it or 2 weeks unpaid if you don’t.
No dick pay no working from home.
I would be mighty annoyed if my leave was cancelled because of someone taking 2 extra weeks because they were daft enough to travel abroad during a pandemic.
I can only add..if you had had COVID or a close family member had..then you would adhere to the rules and would not even consider such travel abroad...you have NO idea how nasty this virus is !
There is a loop hole - cross to Jersey, take a pcr test and then cross over to Britain, the delay 0-5 days for the test results. Guernsey is isolating folk from France for 7 days....
Surely it is not a case of 'the virus will be worse from next Tuesday so we can delay quarantine for a few more days' - if it is bad enough to warrant quarantine then it needs to be immediate.
I think my work wants to be fair to everyone. There are plenty of people at my work who cannot work from home so it's unfair o n them if the people who can are allowed to during quarantine. J cant complain - when the kids were off school they gave unlimited covid leave for childcare
