Personally (and I would tell her so) she has missed a trick in getting this renamed for the reasons I have posted above.

Silly statements like hers lead inevitably to quips like 'What next? Blackpool Tower blah blah blah', which are tedious beyond belief.
"which are tedious beyond belief"

No. Tedious maybe, beyond belief no. When people see such things being taken notice with no signs of common sense prevailing it is not beyond belief to understand their projections.

You may not like it, but hey, thats the way things work.
I’ve seen lots of clothes of colours named tobacco. It’s a nice shade of brown, even if the plant itself is green.

I only get a positive connotation from the word. I can smell my dad’s baccy tin from years ago. Mmmm. :)

It was JTH who said it was nothing to do with fascism.

I made my post based on the link given for the DM article. Strangely, it didn't print the entirity of Miss Kimani's comments which do appear to veer away from the word tobacco having negative connotations, which would have been reasonable to point out.....into the realms of it all being covert racism, which isn't.
and later one of the directors apologised for the book Das Kapital
-un readable and in German he explained

The press secretary added - I think we have made a boob there !

honestly are all the threads gonna be like the David Lammy thread?
( Riven with spiteful and irrelevant comments screams one ABer)

Nothing strange about the Daily Mail twisting a story ! :-)
// Silly statements like hers lead inevitably to quips like 'What next?//
which is an overused one liner put down on AB as it is

quite right - er what is going to ..... er......follow secondly?
ymb - Absolutely not.....it was just that it would have appealled far more to their usual demographic if they had left 'everything' in. As it was, they made Miss Kimani's claims appear fully sensible.
I am sure that an Editor somewhere is having the seat of his trousers kicked.
Of one can moan at tobacco coloured bras, it's no exaggeration to expect moans regarding a place called Blackpool, tower or no tower. It's not more foolish, just equally so, and underlines what rational folk feel about the complaint. Hardly tedious. Especially since this sort of thing is still going on, clearly even more comparisons are needed until the penny drops.
"it was just that it would have appealled far more to their usual demographic if they had left 'everything' in"
Including the three pictures of the lady in question "flaunting her toned arms" or some such twaddle
Would have made far more sense if she was complaining about the link to tobacco plantations and their use of slaves.
^^^but equally as tenuous. And stupid.
I wouldn't mind but my boxers of choice have been rebranded as uniroyal.
