will it be mandatory to be vaccinated against covid 19 in certain professions?
and if any such person refused could they be dismissed?
and on what grounds ?
or if they took the vaccine and had a bad reaction would they be able to sue?
if they didn't get vaccinated and they were suspected of infecting someone would they be liable?

No.
I understand there is already poor take up of the flu vaccine among members of the medical professions and no action is taken to force them. The Covid vaccine, if it ever becomes available, will probably be treated the same (but there may be more incentive to take it).
Gromit - "No".

How do you know that? You may well be correct but an emphatic NO is not correct as its anyone's guess what Diktaks will come from HanCock, Witless and headlight Johnson.
Imagine if it was smallpox.
What would you do then ?
If and when a vaccine becomes available, I will queuing to get one. It's the least I can do to protect my loved ones and any vulnerable people I may come into contact with.
LadyCG, that is entirely your choice which is fine.

However some of us are wary that a vaccine will have been raced through trials and may have unforeseen consequences. It's bad enough when medicine goes wrong for a small group but imagine if it is on a large scale.

I'm not anti Vax by the way - I have my flu injection every year being severely asthmatic.
YMB, do you honestly think they'll prematurely release a vaccine which could potentially have hazardous consequences to people's health?

There will always be a small number of people who have reactions of varying degrees but if the vast proportion of the country is vaccinated against this awful virus then we can consider it beaten and set about returning to normal life and getting the economy back on track.
Russia plans to start mass vaccinating in October.
Won’t be compulsory.
What could possibly go wrong ...
1. No
2. Doesn't arise because see 1
3 Doesn't arise because see 1, in fact this is one of the reasons for 1
4 Doesn't arise because see 1 but also you can't be held liable for being suspected of something.

Are you wrong?
You're not right!
I think certain professions will ‘encourage’ you to have the vaccine. My friend is a nurse and she flatly refuses the flu vaccine, but she does get pressure to have it
I won't be having the flu vaccine. I won't be having the C19 vaccine either.
// It's the least I can do to protect my loved ones //

er no, the vaccine is intended to protect you. there is a medical opinion (but as always with scientists there's no agreement) that those with antibodies can still transmit the virus. if that's the case, the only thing that will protect your loved ones is their own vaccine dose.
rockyraccoon you are right about pressure. I used to refuse the flu vac when I was working in the NHS but staff were never pressured. I do know though that district nursing staff used to pressure vulnerable people in the community to have the vac. It was a big issue with them when the mental capacity legislation was introduced. The content was pretty much the standard attitude for Occupational Therapists before it became law but for many of the physical health nurses I knew it was a real head exploder that they did not have the absolute right to take decisions for their patients on the basis of what they believed was good for the patient. btw I am pro vac in general but not pro pressure.
Ymb,

The UK does not do compulsory vaccinations. Less than 50% of people in the at risk group had a flu jab last year.
If the loonies at the DofH do make it mandatory, then there will be protests similar to the fluoridation of water backlash.
// It's the least I can do to protect my loved ones //

The flu vaccine gives you a (mild) dose of the flu which you body can easily fight. But you are contagious, and you can pass the flu on to people who have not had the vaccination.
stop it
stop it
( ya see airplane ? ) I just cant stand it - more *** questions masquerading as proper deep thought

a) - no - vaccination is never mandatory. (Typhoid Mary was 1928 and we have moved on) - most professionals are not so crazy as to say - 'I know ! there is a vaccination which will prevent covid and I might die if I dont have it so therefore I wont have it!"
I admit there are a few totally crazed people on AB who say this. Brainless gormless and irredeemably stupid does not predict the likely MRI scan results

b) - no alteration of contract - sorted out with Hepatitis B. The govt advice is quite clearly persuasion.

c) on what grounds there are nt any

to be cont
d) no you would have to show negligence

e) yes under certain circs ( HIV infection ) - they would have t know they were infected and quite a bit more

this isnt new you know - COvid is new - the legal apparatus for coping with large epidemics has sort of always been there
// If the loonies at the DofH do make it mandatory,//
er then they would be loonier than the anti vaxxers on AB whom I know are circling

and christ some scientists say that that aint possible
//Imagine if it was smallpox.//

Vaccination against smallpox is not compulsory.

//….do you honestly think they'll prematurely release a vaccine which could potentially have hazardous consequences to people's health?//

I need a while to think about that. Let’s say about 1.5 seconds, that should do it.

Just on the legal side, it will take a change in primary legislation to make vaccination compulsory in the UK. Section 45 of the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984 gives Ministers the power to make orders to control the spread of disease. This is the way that most of the Coronavirus regulations have been enacted. However, it specifically prevents Ministers from making orders for people to undergo compulsory medical treatment:

45E Medical treatment
(1) Regulations under section 45B or 45C may not include provision requiring a person to undergo medical treatment.

(2)“ Medical treatment ” includes vaccination and other prophylactic treatment.
// Imagine if it was smallpox.
What would you do then ?//

funnily enough I was a contact for the last clinical case 1975
Hackney Hospital - parents dragged in a one y old and said we have just got off the plane from Pakistan is this small pox

loud screaming - - -
