I agree, there is no sentence that could truly reflect the harm they did.
One got 16 years the other two got 13 years, of course it's too lenient. I don't know what the maximum sentence would be for manslaughter, but all three should have go that.
Question Author
Barsel// the maximum sentence would be for manslaughter//
It's life imprisonment.
life does not mean life though does it, except for harpers family.
if this was in america, they would get 99yrs x times.
It's not long enough, but it is three more thugs off the streets. That is never a bad thing.
Far too lenient, sends totally the wrong message. Thugs like this, particularly the ringleader/driver, should be strung up and if the liberals wont allow that then proper life - no parole.

I did like the way the judge accused the two passengers of being dim and the ring leader as slightly brighter. Doubt they understood the underlying scorn the Judge was trying to put over though.
IF, the sentences meant they would serve that time in prison before the possibility of release ( I don’t care how well they behave, or if they’ find God ) then maybe that result would be more palatable.
16 years, so with time served and 50% of the sentence he'll be out in 8 years or less.

Lets hope the prison warders band chefs make their stay "enjoyable".
I thought there were 4 in the car

The sentence was not enough but just imagine - on a lovely day like today - they’ll be in a cell.
Will they be ‘housed’ together or split up?
So i was wrong, Henry Long's sentence.
\\The custodial term will be based on a starting point of 24 years discounted for your age, and
then for your plea to 16 years. You will serve 10 years and 8 months of that before you can be
considered for release. You will be entitled to release after 16 years. The extended licence
period will be 3 years.
You will be disqualified from driving for 3 years, and the extended period of disqualification
is 9 years.//
Give them each a length of rope on entering their cell in case they get a little bored with their new home.
They should not be "eligible for release" until they've served the full terms imposed, which should have been longer anyway, I believe.
Long has to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence. As the average lifer does about 10 years it looks par for the course.
It will keep them off the streets for a few years but I expect none of them will come out 'reformed' and will return to their lawless lifestyle, it's bred into them.
weak justice, because of liberal concerns, crack bloody heads, send a message...
I was shooting on Wednesday with the Thames Valley. The mood was sombre but most agreed that Manslaughter would attain the sentence but will now be dismayed at the short length given today. Most were sporting their Blue Lives Matter badges. One serving officer had obtained photocopys of their mugshots and was disappointed to find we were on electronic targets and couldn't pin it on the 600 yard target in the butts. The secretary wouldn't allow it anyway.
I received this today from the same team this morning.

There were a few fruity comments about MPs, Judiciary, and the travelling community.

What they couldn't understand was the fact that Murder was dropped so quickly from the charge sheet. They denied knowing that PC Harper was hooked up and being dragged behind the car but in another interview two of them stated they turned up the radio to drown out his screams.
They'll wait . :-(
I believe they knew what they were doing and continued to do it. Therefore the charges should have been murder and they are/were obviously guilty. I read they were driving in a very erratic manner to throw him off from being dragged behind them and also turning up radio to drown out his screams. If this is not intent to murder what is?
They will come out of prison and continue their useless lawless diddycoy lives but PC Harper's family will have to live the rest of their lives with just his memory.
I cannot express what I think should happen to them.
Agree with lady j, it barely makes a dent in their lives.
