It would be marvellous if this could be put out before October and the ‘flu season, we can but hope that there’s going to be a breakthrough against this terrible illness

as you say one can only hope. I don't know anyone who has had it which is lucky i guess, but the poor souls who have it i wish them a speedy recovery,
Question Author
I agree Emmie, anything that will protect us against it is a positive sign
it is a positive sign, i for one would hate to be at the mercy of this vile virus.

My heart goes out to Kate Garraway watching this disease ravish her husbands body for over 14 weeks now , he had no underlying health issues and yet it took him to the brink of death at least 4 times
is he recovering?
i don't watch the news so much now, as its too depressing.

He’s been brought to a semi coma like state , she thinks he can hear her comforting messages telling him how much her and their children , love him
how awful, lets hope he gets better soon

It would be so uplifting if this vaccine is a breakthrough, the nation can live and move forward again
Do not hold your breath. Successful virus vaccines are rare.
Question Author
Maybe NJ but if we don’t have hope, what’s left?
On the news this morning that there is hope for the Oxford produced vaccine. They are starting trials on healthy people to see how antibodies react.
Question Author
Yes Danny, I watched that
October seems very optimistic but it would be good if all the required testing could be done by then.
But of course it will take a long time to carry out an implementation wide programme even if we can secure enough of it for this country. We have around 65 million people in the UK (although maybe young children can be omitted) but at any one time a few million are temporarily overseas and we also have many millions of visitors coming into the UK, plus legal and illegal immigrants, whom we need to cover. I can see that taking a couple of years. And of course there will be many who refuse the vaccine ( a survey showed 1 in 6) plus those who will want to wait at least a year to see if the vaccine has side effects that come to light later.
Fingers crossed then Bobbi.

Absolutely Danny
FF, you’re right of course but even to hail it as a breakthrough by then would be a pos step in the right direction
My neighbour had it. I was talking to him through my living room window. He said there were a few days when he wanted to die. His underlying health issues are Angina
// we can but hope that there’s going to be a breakthrough against this terrible illness//

is it too early for a headline "Vacancy Club votes 'no' to vaccine"
that is does it work and will it cease creating vacancies for the young people

rather a constipated - too early to tell. -
they are talking about challenge experiments - getting a herd of people and vaccinating and then infecting them as well and seeing what the results are.....
( No, NOT done during the war surprisingly. The ONLY experiment on these lines ( typhus ) were done on Russian POWs. The germans were so intent on getting it work that the results which showed it didnt - - - were interpreted as they did ( work ). the truth is often more remarkable than fiction) The Japanese experiments at Harbin werent much better either
// And of course there will be many who refuse the vaccine ( a survey showed 1 in 6)//
still OK for herd immunity (60%) - is required in this disease. Connected to the R number incredibly

I know a few olds who think it is too dangerous - whatever it is. "You see I might DIE from the effects of the vaccine - Yes!" the toothless old dears warble. - as I incredulously try to persuade "But you will DDDIIIIIEEEEE if you get this disease"
- politeness prevents me often from adding - you old fool !
